Hey all! Hope your weekend is going well. This subject has been on my mind as activity lessens around here and the price of Steem takes a big Wowwweee slide down to nearly $1!
Why Are We Still Here Posting Away?
First, we continue posting because we love the Steem community. It's the best creative and positive engagement to be found anywhere on the internet! That is one reason why it is still so worth it!!!
Also, if you haven't already checked it out, take a look at the @naturalmedicine contest where you can earn SBD and exposure by sharing your natural medicine stories!
Creativity Begets Creativity
Since the beginning of the year, we've been writing posts on the daily. It helps that there are two of us and that a lot of our content is drawn from our lives! Yet, like many things in life, if you continue doing them not only do you get more honed and skillful at said thing, but it keeps the flow going. In this regard, there's simply no need to stop posting when the price of Steem goes down. While earning Steem is a core motive, tapping into the abundant creative energy available to us all and connecting with other creators is also important.
This is actually aligned with the Permaculture Principle that we discussed this week- Catch & Store Energy. This principle is all about 'making hay when the sun shines' and then storing it. Capture and retain energy as it's moving through a site. What's important to note in the "down times" of Steem is that when the prices go up, so will the activity on the blockchain. We'll all start feeling more inspired then, but you cannot make up for the posts that you could've kept writing (and earning on!) in the off-time. My point is, keep earning through posting and commenting and store that energy for when the price goes up! This leads to my next point.
We're actually making more now
And while it is worth lessThe Power of Positivity - Thinking Long-Term: currently (compared to USD), we're stacking it up for later. Now I haven't done the 100% factual math on this, but @therealwolf layed it out well in
"A lower STEEM price will earn you more STEEM
When you create a post on STEEM, the rewards you are getting paid out as STEEM & STEEMPOWER are based on the USD value of STEEM.
For this example, let's imagine you've chosen the 50% SBD /50% SP rewards option and your post has a payout of 5$.
Additionally, the current payout distribution while writing this post is at:
SBD: 11% | STEEM: 39% | SP: 50%"
Examples
Rewards - STEEM: 1 USD:
- SBD: 0.55 SBD
- STEEM: 1.95 STEEM
- SP: 2.5 SP
0.55 SBD & 4.45 STEEM
Rewards - STEEM: 5 USD:
- SBD: 0.55 SBD
- STEEM: 0.39 STEEM
- SP: 0.5 SP
0.55 SBD & 0.89 STEEM"
Of course, when the price of Steem is higher, the payouts will be higher also throwing this math off a little, but,
We are earning pure Steem here!
Each time I go to my wallet and claim my rewards, I'm noticing that I am collecting more Steem than usual and that I'm hardly receiving any SBD.
While none of it is "worth taking out" right now in my opinion, we are basically just catching and storing that pure Steem for later. While the post may not make as much money as it appeared to in the past, we are cashing out in pure Steem and that is invaluable! The exchange ratio between SBD and Steem is also a lot lower than it has been in many moons, so now is...
Absolutely the time to be powering up!
If I had a Steem for every time I heard someone who's been here for over a year say they wished they'd powered up more...
I would be a much wealthier Steemian.
The fact is that no one knows what will happen to the price of Steem. There have already been incredible downturns in price (like we're talking cents- and the price has boomeranged from there!) We are all inherently taking risks here. Yet I was here in December 2017 when Steem hit on $7+ and I can tell you that the feeling in the air was ELATION. I know many people made a lot of money then by cashing out Steem that they had powered up or saved liquid in their wallets. Do I plan on doing this? Hell yeah! I've been waiting all year to cash out some Steem to reward myself (and pay for things!) for the bounty of my creativity. But I won't be doing this just because the price is low and many are only cashing out due to FUD.
Now is the time to power up. Yes Steem could continue to drop, but with SMTs, Hivemind, Oracles, new voting structures, new alliances and coalitions on the blockchain and more wild cards coming in, I truly don't think it's a smart time to do so. It is wise to remember that elation in the air that happens when the prices go up and stay the course now. Keep posting, let your creative energy flow, continue networking and honing your skills. If/when the prices rise, it will all be worth it!!
I am in Steem for the long term. Hopefully curiosity doesn't kill the cat on this one, but from every angle that I can see (and I read a lot), this whole thing has just begun!
We have only just begun!!As @ned said
For anyone else out there daily(ish) posting and staying engaged, what are your motivations and reasons?
If you're overcome with FUD and thinking of powering down or selling off some Steem, what are your reasons?
I'm with you! Love your positive energy and information. I believe Steemit is more than just a way to "earn $$" The community, the ability to share and learn from others...one can't really place a value on that! Keep on Steemin @mountainjewel! You're truly an inspiration! ox
Im only here because you are here. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Really... I agree with all you just said, so dittorama. Resteemed.
I'm pretty new here but I came to Steemit for a way to get into cryptocurrency without risking any of our investments. I believe STEEM will rise in the future and it is also valuable to know how to deal in cryptocurrencies - they are definitely here to stay. I got a little down at first when I would be posting away and not getting anything. I was feeling my way around and trying to figure this thing out. Low and behold I found that there is a lot of marvelous people here that i am very happy to connect with and yes I would like to be rewarded for my efforts but I also found I'm learning lots and I'm enjoying posting here. Still looking for advise on the best ways to earn more STEEM or STEEM Power to help me progress on the Steemian path. What have you found most useful for newbies?
At this point in the grand cryptosphere, price means nothing. Even though last year was big, it's still a tiny fraction of what it will become. I think that the fact that the main social media platforms have become so terrible, people will be looking for other options. That's why I decided to become more active here.
and also remember that yes other social media platforms aint got nothing on steem!glad you joined us @thetexan! i hear you on the long-term thinking! it can be difficult as prices continue to plummet (and some of us have seen much higher!), but we gotta keep our head in the game and remember the long term
I am also here for the long term. I've never cashed out and won't do so for a long time. It's all about growing here so I can have a voice and help others grow
right on @empress-eremmy! it's good to connect with other people who have the long-term vision in mind/heart!
love this!
I agree with your thoughts here @mountainjewel
I simply believe in Steem and its future. I don't know if this is going to be the best blockchain when it comes to rewarding content creators, but so far it is probably the most active one with authentic communities and interesting people all over the place.
Also, as you mentioned in the article, once we get use to constantly write blogs it is probably the best to not lose that habit and keep doing it without caring if crypto goes up or down. Eventually it should go up, but in case it doesn't, at least it is a fun and rewarding experience to share our ideas in here, as well as learning and engaging with others.
exactly. stay in the flow - it's not really a high risk when you realize the abundant nature of creativity and also how much the average human (myself included) has started to "play" on social media. earning steem in the meantime makes so much more sense than twittering that time away (literally!).
i also believe in its future and regardless of the price of the token, think what we have here is pretty damn awesome. A+ for authenticity! thanks for your comment!
Very encouraging. Think we all need to be reminded of these facts. Thanks for sharing
you're welcome @bowentroyer! good to hear from you. definitely in times of FUD it helps to remember why we're here!
I'm still here for the community @mountainjewel and in the hope of the long term rise of Steem.
Thank you for the maths. It feels good to know that I am actually earning more.
Last week I finally reached 1000 SP after working consistently and hard for the best part of 8 months.
With the price drop I have just bought some Steem and will do so, a little bit at a time while prices are so low.
I missed the last 2 dips and I found it hard to buy today just in case it goes lower but, eventually I pressed the button and bought some. 😊
congrats on 1000 SP!! that's a huge milestone and definitely one to celebrate. well done well done! also well done buying some. personally i don't have any extra fiat at this time of the year, BUT if i did i would also be looking at getting some now. now is the time to accrue while there is blood in the streets, as the say. definitely easier said than done, but, from past patterns we can see that it has really paid off from some people.
yeah the numbers are certainly encouraging! the $amount next to our names doesn't look as promising, but the payouts are actually a bit more SP, which is so welcome. i think i've been noticing up to 20% more on average, depending on the payout. that adds up! steem on @gillianpearce!! :D
Thank you @mountainjewel.
I've actually had some bit coin lying around that I bought earlier in the year when it dropped but I never converted it to Steem because I was hoping it would go below $1 which it didn't.
Then it went back up and I said I'd buy at $1.25 but I didn't because I thought it might go lower than that but today I finally bit the bullet and bought some.
I'm not a natural trader. Too scared of losing out! 😂
hahah well the most important part is that you just did it! like most things, your next time may be more fluid :)
Exactly @mountainjewel. I thought if I could just it once it will be easier next time. Tomorrow will tell. 😁

Perhaps you are right. The people who came here for a quick bucks are very soon get disappointed and disappear as soon as Steem price falls.
Those who think for the future remain and keep this vessel afloat even in difficult times.
Those who leave early are often the ones that came late :) And came late looking for a quick buck. Even in crypto, chasing a quick buck is a fools game.
Always wise words, sincerely, I love being here, read, vote comment, I only need more time to make my post, as I say, I'm a slow writer ( saddly) .
So, I really don't care a lot if the value goes up or down, for now I'm just enjoying the ride.
Oh... mountainjewel.. I think i remember you asking me on another post (sorry its early) about smts or something. Look me up in discord, Im happy to help.
i'm soooo with you guys!!!! in it for the long haul...the innovative tech....and for the amazing community! good times ahead!!!!! powering UP....and accumulating steem.....yeeeeehawwwww! ps---- have ya'll ever considered becoming a witness? i would totally vote for you with great enthusiasm!!! i realize you're off grid. maybe remote servers....? ;) cheers...and just thanks for all you do and represent...to this blockchain! HOPE!!!!!!!!!! JOY!!!!!!!! INSPIRATION!!!!!!!! thank you!!!!!!!
Usually I am very hush, hush about my steemit blog, even though I am very active. Only one of my real life friends have I ever shared my blog posts with. They loved it so much, they even signed up for a steem account just so they could follow me.
Yes, I know I am a bit crazy, but I am still afraid of sharing my blog with my friends and family members. I am absolutely mortified that my my family members will start posting photos and personal information about me I never want anyone to see. It would get the point where I don't even feel comfortable posting anything because I don't want to get doxed, trolled, or embarrassed for posting friendly content. Sort of like Facebook. I have maintained a somewhat anonymous profile under the radar of people who know me personally, and that seems to be working for me so far.
Anyway, thanks for the post. You are much appreciated here, and bring hope to young and old account holders here for the future.
thank you @creativetruth. i also really love your content and am glad you're here. i'm sorry to hear about your situation, but it's also understandable. sometimes the people who know us in real life are the ones who are least ready to see us blossoming creatively and in positive love and other truths! steemit is also a safe space of expression for us as well.
