Two years ago, on July 18, 2017, my Steem account was approved and I got hooked into posting here, following my slow removal from freelance writing for various media related publications.
I was looking for something that allowed me to continue to write about the things I loved, but also looking for a place that wasn't too personal and gave me full creative freedom, whether I just wanted to ramble about specific thoughts or to really write something knowing it wouldn't get accepted elsewhere.
Having been in the crypto space for a few years prior to joining the Steem network, a big reason for me to try Steem out was the fact that anyone could be rewarded for posting, and increase their cryptocurrency portfolio by doing so. A nice mixture of finance and creativity, it seemed.
Two years on, I have the same mentality. I believe Steem is a blockchain full of potential, and the users are slowly beginning to witness that potential, taking the reigns over from a centralised authority that, while it has provided a plethora of useful features to the blockchain, has crippled that potential through impotence and the massive dumping of Steem alongside it. Once again, that's not to acknowledge the great things Steemit has done, but the bear market we've faced and the financial issues Steemit Inc itself has faced has clearly shined a bright light into our eyes, waking us all up a bit and getting things sorted.
For around half a year I've dedicated my time to supporting the creatives that keep Steem alive, full of surprising and varying content, all from different countries; the wide variety of opinions, perspectives, and cultures is something I love about Steem. You can really discover a lot of new things just from searching different tags sometimes. Whether it's through photography posts, travel posts, art posts, or simply posts about cooking. The Internet is a hive for sharing information, and Steem is a hive for rewarding the sharing of that information. I love that I'm capable of supporting that, as well as contributing to it. Contributing to a fairer, more distributed yet connected world.
These last two years, well, a lot has changed. Probably the most rapidly accelerating years of my life thus far. I'm learning new things every day, discovering new things about myself and constantly sharing experiences I never thought I would alongside someone. Going from a lost introvert with a ton of ambition to a go-getting extrovert actively pursuing those ambitions. I've said it before, but I will say it here again: I highly doubt a lot of these changes would have happened if I hadn't stumbled across Steem. Having a place to vent and share creativity and talk with others about various creative outlets has led to me discovering more about my interests to pursue them myself.
Oh, and if you made it all the way down here: it seemed like a fitting time to get a bit more personal with you all on here, so enjoy the picture of me. @irial took it on 35mm film. It's a long exposure and taken at night around Piccadilly Circus in London, so there was A LOT of movement surrounding us.
Keep being creative, and I'll keep supporting it.

Well I'm glad you stuck around so long, you were one of the first people with a decent stake that noticed me, so you did a lot to help me build up my own stake over the seven months I've been posting. ^_^
And I think long term the Steem Blockchain is likely to turn out fine, despite that consistently low value we had for a while there, down to .28 I believe?
I've met quite a few people so far doing this on Steem as well, it's an interesting lot that seems to have assembled here.
I'm glad I was able to show you a little glimpse into the potential of Steem at a very early stage. It's practically vital for introducing new users into the platform but often enough curation suffers and new users are easily ignored.
Highs and lows are all part of markets, crypto or outside of crypto. We definitely hit things very, very low, and it's been no doubt a bit scary for many people that invested something. But it should really be seen as a lesson into investing: only invest what you can afford to lose, or only invest what you don't mind not seeing again for a few years.
The crypto space showed people fast and easy profits and I think the opposite is something many newcomers didn't even consider given limited investing experience prior. Big stocks suffer the same issues Steemit Inc faces with Steem, for sure. For example: I invested in one British company and investors weren't keen on the management's decisions and the price had plummeted quite a considerable percentage over the year. In the investor meetings/calls there were questions raised about what shareholders wanted to see changed first and once management began to listen and adapt, the road to recovery began.
Steem is no different, but we are unfortunately stuck to the volatility of Bitcoin as well as our own market. The crypto world is like a mixture of Forex and Stocks in that way.
In short: I agree. Haha. We have a road to go down in order to properly recover and address important issues, and we are finally going down that road. When you hit lows as rough as Steem has, the only direction to move in slowly points upward. If it doesn't, nobody is learning to fix things and we deserve the fate that comes with the lower lows.
Congrats, Namiks! And well done!
You know, Steemit had the sane effect on me. I'd all but given up on my writing when I stumbled on the blockchain. Now, I've got 7 books self-published with numbers 8 and 9 on the way, out of which 6 were begun by posting here.
That's one reason I believe so much in our struggling platform. Go STEEM!
We have a great piece of tech here, we just need to properly understand how to use it and get others to see its potential. d:^)
Happy Steemit Birthday! In a month I will be 2 years old too!😀
I like the cover picture, give me a movement sensation!😉

Happy two years on steem and many more! Congratulations @namiks! Time sure goes by fast when having fun! :-)
Thank you so much! I can't wait to see what else is to come from Steem. It's a very exciting time to be invested in this blockchain.
Congrats!
Where the party will be? Haha!

It's delayed until further notice, since the penthouse I don't yet own hasn't been paid for by Steem's price increase. d:^)
Congrats!

If we all focus hard enough, we will be able to see things clearly
although relaxing might sometimes do the trick even quicker ;>)
I'm glad you got out of your mental and physical cocoon and I'm looking forward to what the butterfly you will be up to, especially on the filmmaking front!
