You make a good point by distinguishing between users and developers.
Each requires a different “onboard” experience. One group values resources and support. The other group values convenience and usability.
And each requires what the other offers.
The good news is...As much as we complain about many of Steem’s UX issues, Steem does have a leg up compared to most. Getting and understanding an EOS account is a pain for the average user. The username has to be 12 characters exactly and the staking methods are oddly technical. Last I checked, they’re still working out the kinks on getting it so a normal user can perform basic actions or transactions because the blockchain keeps getting clogged.
But you’re right. Time is running out fast. Any head start we have is quickly diminishing.
EOS will work things out. Other social media options will pop up.
It’s no time to dilly-dally. Our biggest asset right now is our community. I like how a segment of the forum was devoted to the idea of getting organized and identifying objectives.

The biggest advantage of Steem in my opinion is the user experience. For example having your name as address instead of gibberish is just plain awesome.
But there is still a lot we can do to make it easier to onboard people.
