Since our last update post 3 weeks ago, a lot of things happened. In this post, we are going to talk about them.
First Active Private Key
On July 4th, NobleBot got its first active private key and acted as accordingly by transferring liquid funds to victim's savings account. There were 2 cases of this and in both cases, NobleBot was able to help with SBD but failed to transfer STEEM (NobleBot was beaten by another bot).
NobleBot Development Update
To react to not able to transfer STEEM to savings, NobleBot's code was updated. It performed well in testing but not tested in real life situation. So, we are hoping it would as expected. We'll post more update on this in future posts.
NobleBot Account Reset
We saw that many victims' account was updated with ACTIVE, POSTING, and OWNER authorities to the hacker account. This gives the hacker to control even if the victim changes the password. Hackers also change the victim's vesting withdrawal routes.
NobleBot brought a tool to help victims reset their account. This tool requires the victim's active private key but will be updated to SteemConnect when they will support the removal of owner and active authorities.
New Partnership
The NobleBot has been working with @abh12345 from witness @steemcommunity. Today we are happy to announce that the NobleBot will be working with @guiltyparties from @steemcleaners, along with @steemcommunity.
If NobleBot gets your key and changed it, you'll be notified via comment or transfer memo or both by NobleBot (@noblebot), we do not have any other account.
@noblebot is also not related to witness @noblewitness though the name is very similar.
Some Statatistics
Keys Found | Success Rate | Accounts Recovered | SBD Saved | STEEM Saved |
---|---|---|---|---|
21 | 42.9% | 60% | 95.38 | 2.002 |
Keys Found - Total Master and Active keys detected
Success - NobleBot was able to help
Account Recovered - Percentage of accounts recovered by the original owner
SBD Saved - Total SBD saved by NobleBot
STEEM Saved - Total STEEM saved by NobleBot
In case of a memo and posting private key, NobleBot warns the victim's via memo and comment respectively.

Good job on connecting with @guiltyparties and @steemcleaners, I hope this can drive new development and an even better success rate going forward.
Thanks for @noblebot!
Thanks a lot for posting the update. It's a great project that demonstrates both accountability and community partnership.
I'm very proud of the work you've been doing here - you are very talented and I'm lucky to have the opportunity to know you -you do good things for the community and you are very intelligent - keep up the great work!
Hey @jorlauski, thank you for your kind words. :)
As long as there is potential profit involved people are going to do what they can to try and take it. Success rate may not be where you want it to be right now, but the fact that it has helped is a very good sign.
Yes @bashadow, success rate is not that good. It is currently at 45.5%.
That may be so, but before you the success rate was 100% for the bad guys. They are now down to a 54.5% success rate. So do no fret over much, things will improve.
That is an interesting way of thinking. Thank you for helping us as a community.

Good work. I'm encouraged by the very existence of this account, even more so by what it's been able to accomplish. If there were ever a reason to create a bot (to counter the actions of bots seeking ill gotten gain), this is it.
It's sad that there needs to be a counter to the robbing going on. It's sad that people can't just leave others stuff well enough alone. I know I could be saying this until I'm blue in the face and that it won't matter because it will still be there and it's the reality that we live in.
Well, I'm not much for keeping a reality I don't like. Reality changes all around us all the time. So, hopefully, not only will the bot be beating out the bad ones for people's keys, and people will be better at not putting them where they shouldn't, but there will be a way to shut down the activity of these accounts at the very least. They should be punished for their criminal activity. I hope we can find the way to do that, too.
No matter how careful you are, mistake happens. I have seen many experienced users make mistakes. But we are happy that we were able to help at least half of the victims.
Thank you for your kind words. :)
I agree, which means that more needs to be done. Not by you or the community mind you, but by the code, or something, that will either make it foolproof to do what needs to be done with the keys, or have some other means for doing what needs to be done. I'm sure there's a solution, and you don't need to worry about who you're able to help or not. You guys are the helpers. It's like the paramedics, police and firefighters. They do what they can, but ultimately, they're not responsible for saving people from every possible scenario.
But at whatever point the floodgates open and we're talking 600,000 users a day rather than 60,000, what's happening now isn't going to fly.
I completely agree with you. I have seen zero day user make the mistake first time they comment or post. So, with huge number of users which will be increasing daily, its going to be a bigger problem.
I am not aware of any potential solution right now, but things evolve fast. Hopefully by that time there will be something.
