While I've been discouraged about some Steem issues, EVERY blockchain has its ups and downs. Here's why I'm not in sheer terror about the state of Steem...
"Everyone is losing interest in Steem! It's the beginning of the end!"
It's easy to feel this way. After all, look at Goggle trend's chart regarding searches for Steem. Looks like they peaked in early January... things are looking pretty grim, right? But WAIT! There's MORE!
Let's look at BTC now. Surely, it's not going to be largely forgotten like Steem... right? RIGHT??!?!Nope. Even with the benefit of daily news reports on BTC, overall interest has dropped just as severely. Do the same people who are crying about Steem's demise also cry about BTC's demise? Or altcoins in general?
I believe Steem's user-retention is largely driven by PRICE. Small account holders can be just as greedy as (some) whales — even more so — as poverty can be a major catalyst for greedy ambitions. When they aren't getting X amount on posts, they withdraw.
For a full year, I posted almost every single day — but even I have had to withdraw from Steem participation. Life's pressures have pulled me in other directions for now. It doesn't mean I've lost interest in Steem. I guarantee when prices bounces back — and especially after I get **** in my life squared away, I'll be back full-force.
Rest on our laurels and wait for the next bull run?
Well, that's also a stupid idea. I never said that all is well on Steem, either. I simply said the lens of panic is a blurry and shattered one 😆The progress of dApps being created has been staggering. Are there many other crypto projects that harness coding and creative talent outside of their core team? I'm not sure that there are.
I'm disappointed in Steem's lack of focused marketing, but the Steem devs have been hard at work with SMTS, HF20 and HiveMind. I believe they'll get to marketing, and hopefully soon. I don't think, after working so hard to create an improved infrastructure, that the core team would continue to neglect marketing. I give them more credit than THAT!
The chart that really matters
Market prices will cause public interest/involvement to ebb and flow, but what matters to me is this: How is Steem awareness COMPARED to other projects? This is what should light a fire to either start marketing — or at least get a plan in place. Steem searches are represented by the flat red line on the bottom of the chart... Surely Steem's a better project than crusty, boring old LTC...This has been really basic information...
But some still aren't getting it. Some otherwise intelligent people have spoken to me about Steem's downside without looking at the bigger picture. Will you fall into that trap as well? But on the other side of the coin, I'm REALLY looking forward to highly increased marketing efforts — or all the hard work of the devs and dApp creators will have greater difficulty in going mainstream.
Thanks for the cute animals they almost made up for those sad charts! Another thing... the Steem Monsters Kickstarter campaign reached their goal of $50,000 in one week and fighting is gonna start any day now! The development on the Steem blockchain is not slowing down and if just a couple of these hit it big it will benefit everyone on the blockchain. I feel like I'm diversified while holding steem!
I think it's easy to get discouraged when the price drops, but if a person is powering up and not selling, then who cares what the price is? Sure, the votes are smaller when the price is down, but the rewards are bigger. It all works out about the same. I'm still posting and made it over a month with a post every day. I've posted almost every day for the last 2-3 months and I'm starting to see the effect of that in terms of higher SP. It's not easy and I haven't really gained new followers, but my account is still growing and one day I think crypto will bounce back.
Ha ha!
Have fun with your projects!
Not just a talented artist!
The way I look at it, Bitcoin (for example) doesn't have to return to 20k to be profitable if you get in when it is low. While it is depressing to look at my account value right now, a simple increase in the value or STEEM to $1.64 will mean a double in my present value!
This is exciting opportunity for sure and the existence of a huge community like the one here on STEEMit will have great value in the next bull run.
There is always doom and gloom in the correction phases and we stay strong or get out. You know what I am doing. ;)
You've been so level-headed about the bear phase while everyone else is wanting to know when it will end.... I certainly need more patience in the short term and clarity in the longer term.
I'm not quite gloomy, but I catch myself often being impatient and discontent -- two "feelz" that can wreck a trader 8^)
Indeed mini of lost interest in steemit. But I look at the low prices as a buying opportunity. It's kind of like getting the discounted Blue Light Special. I'm in it for the long haul and see the big picture. I hope others are as well. The benefits how steemit in my opinion are priceless. Thanks so much for the article @overkillcoin
This year has brought some difficult lessons, things I already knew, but had to experience to really understand. I think we should take profits at the next bull run and build ovr positions over time. Simply holding isn't the best option available :D
I am still optimistic despite the 90% price drops. Just look at a lot of other cryptos, they're rock solid in terms of dev teams, but the markets are heavily manipulated....
Good one man!
I don't remember signing up being a problem, but there definitely was a waiting period and that doesn't go over well with this ants-in-the-pants world we live in!
Thanks for stopping by (and for understanding my reduced activity)!
You nailed the problem!
I'm trying not to spend too much time just looking at numbers. There's a lot going on that's positive for Steem, but not necessarily for Steemit. Lot of people have a hard time separating the two.
What would make a really interesting awareness graph would be the over time cumulative monthly search results for each dapp running on the Steem blockchain. As in results for "Steemit+Dtube+SteemMonsters+Busy.org...." to see how much attention we are really generating.
=^..^=
That's a good point, Alexa search and Goggle trends could tell a whole new story by comparing the dApps. Aren't you glad that Steem isn't all about Steemit... In fact, it would probably be good for Steemit's homepage to showcase top dApps so new users would realize they have a lot of options :D
I've suggested a few times that there should be another drop-down menu next to "rewards" in the navigation bar where it brings down the major dApps with direct links... pretty much fell on deaf ears and was met with excuses about "favoritism" and what have you.
Seems to me the PLUS would be to show that all the parts are working TOGETHER and there's a COMMUNITY here...
=^..^=
Yeah but where is my hug!

It is true @overkillcoin , there are many who stopped publishing with the low price, others continue trying it every time because it is what helps us although at this time it is not much. To achieve success, everything is not rosy! although now the thing is difficult because of the price that affects some in the community, it will be improved! Steem is a coin that is worth less than it really should cost, so much programming should not be lost in a hole, according to me there are some things that could be improved and implemented so that Steem is not falling so much.
On the other hand, you owe me a hug, I have it written down in a notebook!
I'm mainly sad that my vote value seems to going down even though my sp is growing :S I kinda feel stuck in one spot. I'm looking forward to changes and see what happens then :)
That is a rather positive post for a change... ;)
Now is the time for everyone to either post like crazy, or to delegate their steempower and put it to good use while you are busy with other things. Either way - focus on earning now. With other coins you would have to BTFD, and here you can ETFD ;)
I noticed I'm pretty much making the same from delegating steempower as I do from posting. So after having posted daily for about 6 weeks straight, I'm giving myself a break now and simply delegte my SP :)
For a change? When have I not been a rock of stability and a ray of sunshine around here??
Oh... since day 1 😂
And who knows, maybe we'll see better days in the market at some point.
Your pictures always say more than 1,000 words 😄
This is the key. And it’s already happening before HF20, Hivemind, and SMT’s.
I used to be concerned by Steemit Inc’s lack of marketing but it’s bugging me less and less. I’m moving to a Steem-centric way of thinking and moving away from Steemit-centric.
That's a much healthier outlook considering the limited abilities of a relatively small dev team :D
Whether Steem is good or bad now doesnt matter anymore. We are all in it and there is not way out :P
You have just instantly transformed this blockchain into the island of Alcatraz :O
Hhhhh I cant live in the real world. I think I am watching a lot of science fiction lately :D
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Looks like everything is down and we need to wait for them to go up again.
Looks like you are repeating yourself.

we are all discouraged now, as long as there is hope everything is possible
