Having Steem coins at Steemit versus at Poloniex?

Yes. You should NEVER keep large sums of money at a digital cryptocurrency exchange.

Multiple major exchanges have gone down over the years. They just disappear and take your cash. Steem, which acts as a secure wallet, is a much better place to keep the majority of your funds.
