Ever since from past 44 years of Cricket World Cup campaign, England won their first CWC Trophy on Sunday 2019. Rules of ICC were questioned by many peoples and also were questioning the on-field umpires. A controversy on an overthrow in last over of the match hitting Ben Stokes's bat and resulted in addition of 6 runs to England scoreboard.
Responding to the issue, an ICC spokesperson said it was against the policy to "comment on any decisions (made by the umpires)".The spokesperson also added that on-field umpires take decisions based on their interpretation of the rules laid in the ICC rule book."The umpires take decisions on the field with their interpretation of the rules and we don't comment on any decisions as a matter of policy," an ICC spokesperson said.
One of the biggest controversy raised when former umpire Simon Toufel claimed that England were given 1 more extra run after the ball hit to off diving Ben Stokes's bat and go to boundary.
Taufel, a five-time winner of ICC's Umpire of the Year Award, had said that on-field umpires had made a "clear mistake" when they awarded England six runs instead of five.
According to ICC law 19.8, which clearly states that a batsmen should award only one run because batsmen had completed only one run and even didn't had crossed the pitch when fielder released the ball.
England should give only one run extra because Ben Stokes and Adil Rashid didn't crossed when Martin Guptill had throw the ball. So they should only awarded 5 runs, one from completing run and 4 of overthrow and put Ben Stokes to striking end which helped England to tie the match.
Later superover were played and it also got tied. Then England were declared winner of the CWC19 trophy on the basis of hitting more boundaries.
