Due to the halt of the blockchain earlier this week all exchanges had to temporarily disable their Steem wallets. Deposits and withdrawals were not possible. Trading always continued and the halt had no impact on the price of Steem.
Some exchanges still have their wallets disabled. I expect most of them to come back soon.
Bittrex: ACTIVE
Binance: Deposits and withdrawals disabled
Poloniex: Deposits and withdrawals disabled
Bithumb: Deposits and withdrawals disabled since April :(
Huobi: ACTIVE
Upbit: ACTIVE
Openledger: Deposits and withdrawals disabled
Gopax: ACTIVE
Steem Engine: ACTIVE
The charts below show how much STEEM is stored on each exchange where STEEM is listed.

Hey, @penguinpablo.
Thank you for this post. Guess I haven't ran across it before but I find it very informative. I figured there must be quite a bit of STEEM sitting on exchanges.
Hoping you or someone else can answer this question. I'm assuming it's possible to buy STEEM without having an account that's trackable through steemitwallet, or any of the Steem alt coin wallets. Is that right? When you say stored on an exchange, that means it's not here somewhere?
The reason why I wonder is, of course, everything hits the blockchain, so it must show up somewhere, right? And it wouldn't be a part of the reward pool or helping in that respect if it's all liquid.
It is possible to buy STEEM on an exchange without having a STEEM account yourself. In that case, the exchange holds the STEEM for you in their Steem account/wallet.
For example, here is Bittrex's wallet: https://steemitwallet.com/@bittrex/transfers
There we go. The missing piece. Thank you. I'm not sure why I haven't put the two and two together, but the exchange has the STEEM account, rather than the individual, and since it's all liquid, it has nothing to do with the reward pool.
Thank you Pablo,
Excellent information as always! Very interesting to note the various exchanges increasing their holdings substantially over time - good news for the future price of Steem!
Upvoted and resteemed :D

I hope more people will buy those tokens.
Isn't there a way to contact the bithumb team to let them know that their wallet has been disabled?
They disabled the deposits and withdrawals themselves. I don't know why it takes so long.
Thank you for the info ;) indeed i tried to withdraw on binance and didn't work.
