I am with you @preparedwombat.
From zero to millions in 5 years is not a bad time frame.
I know everything is not measured in that manner but there is the financial component that will take place to big money for many. Will it happen in two weeks? No...but to radically alter one's financial position in 5 years is not a bad thing.
Consider the decades we worked to accumulate much less (at least I did).
I am here for the long run as well. I am having a good time here, seeing cool infos, photos etc. And I am meeting cool people.
One of the problems which fuels this idea, is a good introduction post.
For some of us, this was the first post written on Steemit, and if done well it will get a small value. This is a poisoned gift. Because probably the next 10 post, will have a pay out around 0 (zero). Which destroys the motivation. I do believe that it could be a reason why so many people are dropping out. They just lack the motivation to continue and to grow slowly.
At the moment, before mass adoption starts, only the motivated and strong believers will survive!
The flaw is not in the value, it is in the people that are quick to give up. If you are here to make money only then yes, people will be discouraged and move on. The idea needs to change and people do need to know that the money is not the value of a person's thought, writing skills etc. They need to know that it takes time to grow, find the people they can connect with and just keep growing, being patient and true as you said, be motivated. Good content (as in not copying someone else's blogs, spam and all that), good comments and being true to people and yourself is what makes this place work and be a good place. We all start with nothing in life. Love is what we have from birth. It is the same for here ^_^
