Steemit to Save the World!

Looking at Steemit right now I have to say I am quite surprised, positively. I haven't really thought that Steemit will become this successful, but it has surprised even me. Looks like this is really the power of networks of people coming together voluntarily to share their ideas, without being censored.

I have invested 2 BTC into Steem a few months ago, bought them at 23000 satoshi, now the price is 42800 satoshi, so that is a +86% PROFIT. Quite impressive.

That's that. Then I see that my posts start to earn more and more money. I wasn't really into making money here, I was just here to speak my mind and to blog about things that I find important in society.

I mean I could have posted pictures and things like that that get 200-300$/post if I really wanted to make money. I have a 25 mp camera, and I live in a nice area so I could have posted some pics. But I wasn't really about maximizing profits here, I just like to blog in my spare time that's all.

Other people just post up some pictures or some art, and get 500$ for it. Ok good for them, looks like we are having a new renaissance here to push back against the dark ages of tyranny and censorship.

So Steemit above all is very important for free speech, it's the first one of it's kind, and now that mainstream censors content producers, obviously Steemit will benefit from that. The greed and the tyranny that goes on in some of these corporate giants is just starting to become irritating for regular people. So they rather blog on Steemit, than to have their ad revenue pulled off by Youtube.

The game is changing, decentralization is the key word now. So I am here for 9 months now, and now I am earning on average 4.5$ / post, and I wasn't even trying that hard to maximize profits, keep that in mind. Nor am I writing about mainstream stuff.

This means that more talented people who are writing about more mainstream stuff, can easily earn 15-20$/post. So let's say you post 2 posts a day for 30$. Ok that's 900$ income per month, minus whatever taxes. And where I live that is not that much, but not everyone in the world has this privilege, and in other places that is quite a lot of money.

Now take a look at what median wages the "not so unfortunate" people are earning monthly (median = biased towards the majority):

Even if you pay 50% taxes, which is pretty bad. You still earn more by just being creative on Steemit, than to have to work 16 hours a day in some sweatshop in Uganda or Kenya.

And we already have a success story right here, a guy from Africa has made it, to success:

So there is no reason why Africans can't be creative. So if you think about this, these are the things that will move humanity forwards.

Not just Steemit, but the entire crypto-currency arena, all decentralized projects, that will reward creative people and bring people out of poverty.

I can guarantee you Steemit will bring more people out of poverty than some shitty government welfare program. Because here we reward people for creativity, not for lazyness, and that is how humans become better beings.

Right, I am also very very impressed by the Steem concept. Get paid to generate high quality content and contribute towards a better society. This is what I say innovation. Although I still have to learn so much about Steem, as I am a newbiw here, but I am loving this place. Comment, write and vote and interact with the community. So much better than copy-paste social media out there.

Great post! I share your excitement! When creators are being censored to death by the big social media networks, Steemit stands to literally change the world and provide for those being censored.
I'm a news reporter. My videos have been drastically demonetized and Steemit provides me with the opportunity to make money anyways and continue to do this work full time. It's a life saver for sure!
Keep up the great work! :)

Yes, making videos is not really the issue. The issue is having the monetization channel secured. And that may have meant that people had to censor themselves to not lose ad revenue.

Here you dont have to do that.

super interesting post. certainly going to get back to posting here once i can get over my current survival lifestyle! :) - behind the scenes i've been working virtually on upwork just to get by but i'm doing good! :) - will be back blogging here soon!

"I wasn't really into making money here, I was just here to speak my mind and to blog about things that I find important in society."

Doesn't look so coherent for an account named profitgenerator :-p

Yeah I choose that username to talk about investments and cryptocurrencies here. I didn't really regarded my blogging here as a stream of income.

I am making most of the money from crypto investments.

I know several success stories where steemit has already changed lifes.
I like your posts and you have my respect @profitgenerator.
You are doing an important job. Thank you.

I'm with you in this, from now steemit will only grow.

this article is great man. right to the point. steem.it value will only increase more as people realize that it cannot be censored. very important in this day and age of central authoritarian regimes suppressing free speech. I will retweet this one fo' so'

Technically it can be censored, but it's much much harder, and it will provoke a much bigger public outlash.

It's really time to hold the censors accountable. The days of tyranny are really numbered.

Actually Steemit.Com is just an interface to interact with the Steem blockchain. Really techie guys could be able to write the blockchain by themselves and I guess in this case the censorship would be nearly impossible.

Yes but still the internet could be shut down, or ISP's could block nodes.

I said it would be hard, but not impossible. The question is will people let that happen:

In a couple hours steem will win the BTCC vote. Once steem is added I think we will be in for one hell of a ride.

So true. MEGA MOON! if that happens.
Actually, when do we find those results out ?

I have been monitoring the poll and recently made a post on the topic.

Please visit my post for more info: https://steemit.com/steemit/@bitminter/3-780-votes-with-only-19hrs-left-steem-dominates-btcc-twitter-vote

@bitminter

Excellent. This is a great information. Will keep track there.

Thank you much appreciated

and once the network effect kicks in and there is all this high quality content... critical mass time to the next level

My question regarding Steemit has always been this: How can this thing NOT become successful? And I say the exact same thing about golos. Crazy. I only see both of 'em taking off. Maybe this year. Maybe in 2018.

The interactive and rewarding mechanism is different here. But how serious the censorship is with the traditional social media?

Not extremely serious yet, but they are quickly cracking down on it. For example in some cases you can't even criticize politicians anymore. People were banned for that, or even fined by the government.

And there were many more shenanigans. It's still somewhat free, but only on mainstream issues, and they will crack down on that too.

I suppose by 2020, the traditional social media, will become a totally controlled, North Korean style propaganda system.

Until then we have to grow the alternatives.
