Let's check how the biggest games like Splinterlands, Dcity, Nextcolony, Holybread, and Drugwars are doing compared to the last analysis. Dcity and Holybread are newly included games.
Previous comparison to be found here.
Also, be ready for new games coming exclusively for HIVE like Qlabs (https://qlabs.online/). Exode announced (https://exodegame.com/). Steem Knights MVP and being developed (Steem or Hive?)(https://steemknights.com/). Crypto Brew Masters in development.
- Nextcolony game will be shut down around May 10th and its code will become opensource.
- Dcity.io stats are based on rewarded players. This game is quite different as it doesn' require daily actions from the player to achieve rewards.
- Drug Wars technically is no longer on the Steem blockchain, however many Steemians still play this game, and the app itself broadcast some data (only timestamps) so its usage is trackable by my tools. Also (as I assume) game broadcasts txs for off-chain players (eg. dw-gsx5n1177395).
- If you don't wanna dig in these nice little stats, go to Figure 4 which is most important.
Which games migrate to Hive? It is better to ask creators about this, as there are some mixed signals. Steem games will be tracked by me up to April 25th.
Player base
Figure 1
Splinterlands is not slowing down and gained most of the new players: 39%. Last time it took 5 months for the same gain. This time only 4 months.
Average daily players last 30 days
Figure 2
Next Colony lost the most activity: -53%. However, the more accurate in my opinion is the activity chart in Figure 4.
Inactive Players
Figure 3
Criteria: "Inactive" player is the player who hasn't transacted for more than 14 days, except dCity where the activity is counted differently. Splinterlands has recruited more players but also lost more active players.
Analysis
Taking arbitrary 2 weeks as inactive criteria is not helpful. Different games have different dynamics. Let's take Player Base and subtract Inactive Players to clarify:
Figure 4
This chart shows also less active players, without hard caps. Now we can see some nice data and in my opinion, this chart is a real activity and is the most important info. Again Splinterlands gained the most and Nextcolony lost the most.
I've had added also a new stat I called engagement factor, calculated as average active divided by "soft" active players from the chart above.
Figure 5
This info shows how many players which are active during 2 week period are also active daily. The lower number doesn't mean it is bad because it shows the characteristic of the gameplay. Thereby dCity wins, obviously.
Trends
To have a full image of the situation you may want to look at the trends.
Figure 6
Showing timespan when all 5 games were available to play: from 27.01.2020 to 11.04.2020.

Thanks for your attention and please leave the comment.
Steemweb.pl migrates to Hivedata.space soon.
Nice comparison you have here :)
Although I dont quite get the engagement factor :)
It shows how many players that are active during the 2 week period, are also active daily.
eg. 50% means that 50% players of "2week" group are active every day
Thanks ... got it :)
Almost all dCity players are all active! And probably from the 52 inactive, most of them are accounts for dumping stuff (like I have mine @thankyou4ykw).

Having a sort of stats website for this kind of things would be very valuable for HIVE. Data exists already... so, your work could be somehow turned into a product.
Thinks about it!
I was enjoying Splinterlands a lot, for now I'm taking a break until it will resume operations on Hive chain.
