I’ve done a lot of domestic travel lately. I’ve planned to travel with my boyfriend and he’s always the adventurous type. He always has the next destination in mind, and so far, we’ve chased hot air balloons at dawn, dived with whale sharks, and climbed to summits of mountains.
Believe me, these ideas are always better than the actions involved.
As for me, I’m the type of person who:
a) Hot Air Balloons at Dawn- “Can I sleep until noon?”
b) Whale Shark Diving – “I’m just going to stay here on the shore…”
c) Hiking to Mountain Summit- “Will you carry me?”
But I don’t want to let my boyfriend down. I adore him too much and I do know that he wants to savour these achievements with me by his side.
It just so happens that I’m more of a sleep-loving, blanket-hogging kind of person.
We’ve done both hot air balloons and whale shark diving. It may sound so glamorous but there’s a lot of planning and saving involved.
Like all vacations, planning is easy if you know what you want to do and where you want to go. But if your bank account is zero, plans just remain to be plans.
So we have plans of vacations for the year, and we compute the amount that we need. Luckily there’s two of us so there’s twice our savings power.
Even if I make enough and can save for the both of us, he also does his job and we look for deals in airfare, hotel, and food. We book reservations in advance, and we talk about what we want to do and experience.
We save with a specific amount in mind, and set aside money every pay day that’s untouchable. Of course, we still go on dates but we try to skimp on other luxuries, like eating in expensive restaurants, watching new movies, (I like buying and reading books but that has also taken a back seat).
The upside to this is that even if our vacation is three months away, we already have enough set aside. Even if we left for vacation right now, we still have enough plus shopping too. I like taking photos and shopping for souvenirs isn’t really on top of my list but I do try to bring home a few stuff. Photos still make best souvenirs.
