Here is why Steem is attracting a bunch of low quality, scammers, spammers, and idiots.
We have people like Jerry posting this video on YouTube about how easy it is to make money on Steemit. Of course we are going to attract a lot of users who are only here for the $$, without ever caring about posting anything of value to the community.
Users are important but post quality is much more beneficial in the long haul.
Any website can attract half a million people if the poster boy is going on YouTube telling everyone how easy it is to make 100’s of dollars per post.
Stop being a clown 🤡 Jerry!
Steem isn’t one of your self help/how to make money trading crypto scams.
This is a platform that many people are working hard to build. You sound like a late night infomercial.
Stop the shit!
@rawdog and @jerrybanfield, first of all rawdog you make a very valid point about Jerry and the Steemit platform. Jerry is a dear Friend so I am going to stay neutral because I like what you have said here concerning the ads to attract more users. As far as low quality and SPAM posts, yes they will be here but I feel the more mature STEEMIAN will just bypass them. We know the people that are genuine and truly putting out good content.
i came to know about this wonderful community from jerry facebook campaingn.
he told its easy to make money in steemit but its been almost a year and i have made 200$ total which i used for trading and steem power.
thanks to jerry for letting me know about this platform.
but spammers should be controlled. i am with you.
jerry most of user invited are from developing country. where earning is hard. positive videos about quality content and good guide will be helpfull
Thanks for the response. . Yes, you probably had to work very hard to get to $200 and congrats on the user rep of 54! In my opinion, we shouldn't be telling people how easy it is to make $100's of dollars per post when that just isn't true. .
Best of luck to you!
Hello
I like to say few words which will not be on either sides but only on my thoughts.
I found about the steemit platform through @jerrybanfield. For me its not a bad thing to publish it on Facebook. There will always be scammers everywhere. From my view we need to spread the platform in someway. What @jerrybanfield did is not that bad thing. He can also do it much better way where steemit platform will get excellent users. What I'm trying to say is @jerrybanfield could have done better than that to get more quality users who will stay in the platform like me. The way he did it got many into this platform but with scammers. There will be much better way where we can get quality users @jerrybanfield. And for scammers, we can still do a better job to clear out the scammers. @ned in this opportunity I would like to say that we can still get better ways to deal with the scammers. @rawdawg I hope you got my point on this subject.
Thanks 🤙

Amen, Rawdawg keeping it real!
I don't think it's a huge problem, the types of people that are attracted by this don't last long.
As an aside, I've always thought Jerry was some sort of sociopath or serial killer anway. lol
Seriously ask yourself this: "If Jerry Banfield showed up at your door, would you let him in?
Hellz to the no no.
LOLz
I agree, he doesn't look all that intelligent or even a normal person from all those pictures he is using. Not sure how I will feel about him in real life!

excellent post.
Jerry your doing great
, keep it up! very motivating.
pay no mind to the negative asses, their just jealous because your so successful with Steemit.
Not being negative. . . false advertising is not good.
If you like Jerry that's cool, but setting an expectation of $100's of dollars per post for the average new user is not realistic. . .Hence why the platform gets flooded with garbage and users that don't stay very long.
If Jerry is doing it. there is no reason why other can't also. NO false advertising with Jerry. You are mistaken.
Have you made over a $100 on any of your posts in your first month here?
Look at it this way. Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, Snapchat, all have a ton of spam, useless info, and scams. But they are all worth a ton of money. Why? Because all kinds of people are using those platforms. We will bound to have a lot of spammers as steemit grows. There will always be some bad apples. Do not think its fair to blame it all on Jerry.
Do you feel like the video is an honest reflection of what the average user will experience when joining Steem?
The difference between Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, and Snapchat versus Steemit is that people joined those services because they wanted to without any monetary reward involved. Millions of people use those services for nothing. Those services are worth a ton of money because they found a way to get a shit ton of people to use their technology not because they are paying them to do so. . .Big difference.
add a tag as jerrybanfield.... he checks this tag on steemit.... he would be able to see your post and hopefully stop making stupid videos
will do
done
A consumer cannot purchase something is he/she doesn't know it exists
Jerry seems to be rather a polarizing figure, but I think it is probably fair to say that he does more to promote Steemit than the vast majority of people here – that work helps to enable consumers to purchase the product
You say that all of the new consumers are ‘poor quality’. No doubt some will be, but some also will be good quality, or at least medium quality. If the number of new poor quality users is higher than the number of new high quality users the net effect in the short-term would be to reduce average quality
But in the long-term I would guess that most of the spammers and poor quality posters will leave or just go inactive – scams and spam will never go away, but I consistently see that they don’t work here for long. The high quality posters will mostly stay and do well – maybe some will invest in STEEM, and maybe some medium quality posters will grow into top quality posters...
If that happens, then the net longer-term effect is to increase average quality while also growing the site – and as per your post, “post quality if beneficial in the long haul”
A few suppositions there, but that’s how I see it - I'm a 'live and let live' sort of person ;-)
I’m not saying all the new users are of low quality, but the type of people that will be attracted by a video showing off thousands of dollars in 1 month profits will be people who are coming to Steemit for the money and only the money.
A realistic expectation is a good thing.
You say that a video showing off thousands of dollars in profits may well attract a greater proportion of people who are coming for the money and I agree with you - but it seems to me there is nothing wrong with that if there are some good posters mixed in among that group - which we agree is the case
So then your complaint becomes that people's expectations are being raised. I don't see any problem with this whatsoever. People just need to man up a bit. Life isn't easy and Steemit is no different, if someone comes here and gives up after a few posts because their expectations aren't met I don't see that as a loss to the platform - their departure makes the platform on average stronger
It’s false advertising. If STEEM Inc made the same claims that would be borderline breaking the law.
Seriously?!?
I'm no lawyer and I haven't watched the video, but I assume from your post that it states you can earn $100s per day posting on Steemit - which is absolutely true...
What's 'borderline' breaking the law? You don't break laws a bit, you either break them or you don't break them. Is 'borderline' kind of like 'almost breaking' the law, i.e. perfectly legal?
Did you watch the video? Is it indicative of what a first time user will experience in their first month?
That will give you your answer.
No, it’s 20 mins long, I can think of countless better things to do with 20 mins
Regardless, I don’t think the content really matters, as long as it’s not a snuff video or something
