The value of your upvote is not determined by how much Steem power you have... Ik right? They've been lying to us!!
Your upvote's full power is determined by how many shares/equities on Steemit that you have. Those shares are called vests.
Steem Power is only a representation of how many vests you have... Displaying how much it would cost to get the amount of vests you currently have.
More Vests are created as more people get involved. Meaning the value of vests goes down but existing ownerships receive interest.
Eg. Say there are only 2 people in steemit, @.warrenvee and @.aaabbb - Real users btw & very nice people, regardless of the following few words. Visit their page, they might interest you.
@.warrenvee powers up and buys 1000 vests at 10sp (Steem power) on 01/01/2016. Meanwhile @.aaabbb remains with the bare minimum.

@.aaabbb powers up with the same amount of Steem power, 10sp. However, @.aaabbb doesn't get 1000vests. Instead gets 500. @.aaabbb is now inflamed with anger as @.warrenvee remains to be a whale 😤😤
As for @.warrenvee, he'll get interest on @.aaabbb's purchase and get an extra 500vests so now he has 1500vest and he's extatic 😁😁.

So how much is the total vest count as on today? Is there any way to know what percentage (or share) of the total vests I own? The link you pointed to only gives some no. For me, and I believe for every new joinee, it is 57 billion. But still I can't figure out what that means.
Well, is there any difference between vests and vesting share. I see that it's vesting share which is mentioned as 57,000,000,000; where as its 0.00219 mVests.
