Interesting segway into a 'deeper topic'...
I think I know what you're getting at with high profile 'respected' accounts doing 'bad things' (nb I'm on my phone so I'm keeping this simple its hard to type) - I've got a few on personal 'black list' that I know are just part of early adopter circle jerks for example.
It's ironic (or is it?) that we can't speak openly for fear of retribution.
And then there's lots of 'moaners' who do great 'policing' work! (I tend to ID more with them rather than the positive vibe club).
You should've made two posts - one on this and one on the literal pretty face matter. Which ATM for me is much more interesting, mainly 'cos it's just easier to think about.
There's a great book called 'Honey Money' which demonstrates that attractive people DO have more success. Given that steem exagerates base tendencies you WILL be getting some votes just because you've got a pretty face.
And I'm sure some of the blokes on here (even the nice ones) give fatter upvotes to a pretty face.
It's only rational isn't it? Higher upvote = more noticed = higher chance of interaction = higher chance of getting some action. To put it crudely. And if all it takes to increase yr chances is moving that slider 3mm to right, well why the hell not?!
That's just most blokes. I don't see why it would be any different on steem.
I can totally empathise. My own analysis shows that 65% of my own upvotes from women are awarded on the basis of my beard.

I thought of making two posts.. and I think a look at how much looks play into Steem is interesting.. I just think we probably already know the answer to that .. and I couldn’t spend a whole post talking about my face 😂
In all honesty though, I know the voting for a post just because it has a girl in it happens all the time.. and I don’t necessarily think it’s wrong. We are visual beings and are drawn to things we find pleasing. There is no secret why advertisers use pretty girls or attractive guys in their marketing.. because it works.
The whole idea just got me thinking of how we do the same on Steem.. except we are financially supporting these things under possibly fake pretenses.
Clearly a pretty photo of a girl, is a pretty photo of a girl.. but a brand on steem might be pretending to be something it’s not.. and if we aren’t actually looking, we would never know.
I like pretty things too.. and vote for things I find pleasing. But if I am putting my support behind a person or project because I think they are doing good.. I want to make sure they are actually doing good.
can you blame the ladies? Beards are a sign of masculinity afterall 🙃
And.. exactly why I feel crap half the time coz I have to work harder because I'm NOT a pretty face. And I don't have a beard. Just because it happens doesn't mean it's right xx
