Investors are upset about Steem's marketing by Centralized Entity, STINC: We are at the age of Decentralized Marketing.

in #steem6 years ago

The biggest advantage of blockchain is that no single entity controls it. The good enough example is Bitcoin. There are lots of independent groups that updates the protocols of BTC and also, do marketing for the bitcoin. In fact, BTC is so decentralized and wide-spread that it needs no marketing by a central authority such as Bitcoin Foundation.

At earlier stage, a blockchain may need some guidance from the founding developers and entrepreneurs. Over the time the decentralized community takes over. That is what happened to BTC. But it is not necessarily true for EOS or TRON, which mostly own by few entities since they were launched as ICO. Big investors take large positions and they still control all the decisions on the Governance.

Steem is semi-decentralized. It was getting distributed among the many stakeholders for the last three years. Still, STINC holds 70M Steem which is around 22% of the stakes. Most updates and upgrades are still made by the STINC.

However, it is getting uppened by proposed @staeem.dao, @steem-alliance and @steem-engine etc. Most the developments are executed these days by the non-STINC devs.

Same is going with Marketing. STINC hardly do any marketing. Most probably they are short in people due to short of funding due to severe bear market. However, community leaders and community have taken the responsibility of marketing for Steem blockchain.

It is at very early stage. The prognosis looks good for the future. At least, if STINC keeps upgrading the protocols for some time being, community devs will take control. Marketing will also be taken controlled by many users and community leaders. Steem's biggest power is its network effect. It can grow at high speed due to words of mouth than some big mouthed blockchains with few use cases and none to few users.

However, Steem's price action is struggling due to supply and demand issue. It will change over long time but we need to spread individually goodies about Steem to the outside world.
