As there are new people joining this platform every day and there is quite a steep learning curve to how to make Steemit work for you, I thought I would write a short post with some practical and easy tips for newbies to increase their exposure, views and rewards.
Upvote Bots:
The first, and easiest and an almost guaranteed success ratio if you write your own posts, is the use of upvote bots. These are Steemit accounts with a lot of voting power, and by paying them a certain amount of Steem dollars they will upvote a post of your choosing. Some bots have you bidding against other users for their upvote, but others are more straightforward. The ones I like are:

@Steemthat: By sending $0.01 to @steemthat and including the link URL of your post as a memo, you will get a small upvote that is worth usually about $0.02. Not much, but it helps and is a good return.
@binkley: Operated by the same as Steemthat, you can use this in addition to Steemthat. You have to send $0.02 to @binkley and include the tag #steemthatshare to receive an upvote worth a few cents, plus being featured on the steemthat page
@Randowhale: the big one, that a lot of people use. Randowhale gives a good return. You pay $0.5 SBD and include the URL of your post as a memo, and if Randowhale is awake he will upvote you for about 50% more than you paid. Due to heavy use, Randowhale is often asleep.
@minnowbooster: Minnowbooster is a great upvote bot, but a lot more expensive than the others. You have to pay $5.0 SBD, to gain an upvote on your post worth about 50% more.
@drotto: another one I like for small upvotes, when I am low on SBD. drotto is a bid-bot meaning that if you bid more you get a bigger upvote, but because he is not as over-used as others you usually get a good result if you just send in $0.01, although you can bid as low as $0.001
Steemvoter
If you don't write a lot of posts and would like to earn from curation, a great tool to do this is Steemvoter. You can sign up on that site (be sure to use your posting key not your master key). On this site you can create rules to automatically upvote your favorite authors. This way if you are offline and your favorite author makes a post, you will automatically upvote. You can manually set a time limit on how many minutes after posting you would like to upvote. This is a great way to ride along on the backs of authors who earn well, while supporting them at the same time!

(shameless plug: If you'd like, you can try autovoting on my posts: Because I don't have any bots following me yet, and I often pay upvotebots to upvote my posts with a few dollars, so if you get your votes in quick enough you can get part of that pie easily. It helps me, and it helps you!)

Steemfollower
Steemfollower is another great tool for authors. It allows you to anonymously exchange upvotes. How it works is that you sign up using your posting key and then you upvote posts that appear on the Upvote exchange. By doing so you generate reward points. For example, if you upvote worth $0.05 you will be elligeble for $0.05 worth of upvotes on your own posts. Your posts will keep appearing in the list as long as you still have credit. This is a great way to get more upvotes! Go have a look at the website of Steemfollower!

This should help you struggling minnows a little bit in getting your posts out there and build a following!
Good luck, and keep steemin'! 🚂
