Steem requires a steady and stable flow of money to keep working. We cannot rely just on investors anymore, we need clients. And those clients could be advertisers.

The curation system is broken and I think HF20 got the things worse. Steem Inc and witnesses decides to reduce curation windows from 30 minutes to 15 minutes, because the expiration time of posts is short. But the cause of this is the short time of the curation window, so the problem is getting worse. Of course it is not the only problem the curation system has, bid bots are a big issue too.

Advertisers are one possible source of income, but what I tried to argue in the post is that we probably don't want that. Advertisers would bring their own set of incentives and they would be different from those of our users, for sure. I would prefer subscription based model to ads if all else fails.
