Steemit.com kind of sucks sometimes. Here's what they need to focus on to save the world!

Hey again, steemitizens!

I won a little contest which called for "Things that Steemit needs or needs to improve" basically.

My suggestion was better follower management tools, because the current interface makes keeping a tidy follower/followed list needlessly clicky and tedious. All they need to do is add some colors to differentiate between followed/follow in the followers side and likewise on the following side of the house.

Right now it's just a big scroll and squint fest to go through and prune your list or update following on new followers and remove followings that you no longer want or need.

Also being able to sort or separate both lists into followed and following are so necessary and so obviously simple and so painfully missing from the platform.

And don't even get me started on mixing our own posts with the resteems in our blog pages. This is useless and helpful to neither readers nor bloggers.

Whoever the UI/UX person is on steemit.com is clearly not thinking of actual usability and is just banging out minimum viable products that are not yet ready for primetime, and this is what will kill this system, not the complexity of the coins or the viability of the idea, but rather, the fairly amateur UI/UX going on inside steemit.

"UI/UX" for the non-nerd is an acronym combo for User Interface & User Experience. And really UI/UX is where all the steemit goodness falls totally on it's face. Simple is good. Awkward, tedious user processes like managing blogs and followers, which are both fundamental to use of the system and user adoption are both, quite frankly, in terrible condition here on steemit.

I love steemit, and as a software developer and software company owner of many years, I have moved towards almost 100% steem oriented projects on the fringes of my existing non-steem clientele's work. I am adding developers to my staff who have block chain backgrounds and already working on 4 different new tools for steemit and steem. Four new tools that should already be in the core, but hey, if they won't build them for you, I will!

Thank you so much for choosing my answer in your contest @alokkoshal!

Here is the original contest winner announcement post which is bound to build up some good comments on this topic as it stays published and gets some visibility. It's still only a few minutes old right now though.

And the original contest post and the contest question about steemit in it's entirety, with interesting comments of it's own!

Get the user experience and user interface working well, team, and we will thrive and users will come.

Keep it like it is, and prepare to die on the vine, never ripening to your full potential.

Just one mans .02 SBD

Tell me in the comments how YOU think steemit could be improved, and what tools or features are missing that you would really like to see and be able to use. If I like the idea, I might just build them for everyone to use!

And just like that, this post is over.

Full steem ahead, steemitizens!

You're thinking in the right direction. Personally I would rather have a integrated chat, a calendar, better followup on tagging and such. To make the transiton from Fuckbook more bearable.

I don't agree with you, and i mean no disrespect, but this is not a facebook clone here and should never become one.

If you mean a post archive calendar like wordpress has, I can tell you that almost no wordpress user actually uses them.

If you mean an activity or event calendar, that is not really what block chain is all about, but I suppose it could be done. I don't see it's purpose in steemit though, but I'm sure a block chain calendar app is possible on it's own.

Integrated chat and PM's would be nice, but all that requires is a mobile version of steemit.chat and some links in and out added to steemit and steemit chat, so we almost have that. Discord is better though and most communities have adopted that, which I approve of, because frankly every app does NOT need it's own chat. That how I ended up with my tool bar currently holding Facebook messenger, skype, discord, slack, steemit.chat and still needing to sms text now and then too.

LIfe was much easier for chat, when everyone on the entire internet was on yahoo messenger or microsoft's and we could use trillo or pidgin to cross talk on them. MORE chat apps is NOT the answer to "easier" in my opinion. Imagine if you had to carry 27 telephones with you to talk to your friends. NO.

Not sure what you mean by followup Tagging unless you mean bookmarks. Those would be nice.

But steemit is NOT facebook. Its more like wordpress and it should not be bloated. Other apps can fill gaps. There just needs to be usability issues resolved here pronto, or it will never be used by the greater masses.

Everyone here now is either technical or entrepreneurial early adopters. Joe Schmoe average guy won't be able to work this site. It's over his head. He COULD figure it out, but it's not easy enough so he won't.

And that will kill steemit and steem.

Nice post! Perhaps the team should hire you to make things better. LOL

I own a successful software firm serving medium size companies already, but I'll happily contract with them!

Good work will always result in good results... However the results might be late 😉...
Keep the good work going brother

Will do!

Wow you really know your stuff. It would be nice to see these changes asap before going mainstream. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I've been doing software for over 30 years. I have peeves! :D

I hope they can get their act together!

Some great points. I'm sure many of those changes will happen over time since they seem like they would make a ton of sense. :)

They should never have released this far without these basics, so they best hurry up! :D
