And I'm not even lying.
Recently I became addicted to the process of felting.
It started like this:
- Watch a few Youtube videos
- Try out a sample scarf - failed
- Wat more Youtube videos
- Try out a second sample scarf - pretty nice - I want more of this!
- Make boards on Pinterest with inspiration
- Try more and more scarfs - whoa, these are looking good!
And then... Information pretty much went dry. At least online.
Who reads books these days.
A nasty nasty thought started itching... Should I? Should I not?
Gross!
But my need for more information and communicating with like-minded people won in the end. I opened up a new browser tab and started typing f... a... c... e... b...
And there they were. Thousands and thousands of people who were talking daily (!) about felting. Wet felting, nuno felting, needle felting... Then there were the groups dedicated to the process of dyeing silk, of upcycling fabric... Literally for every little step in the process that I needed to create my work there is a Facebook group.
I even checked Reddit before I took this plunge back into the Facebook waters... It wasn't able to save me. Maybe @acidyo can point me the way.
So here I am. Confessing. Feeling gross, dirty, a cheater, and so so full of excitement about the access Facebook is giving me. To peers, to information, to... Basically about more than 50% of my felting education so far.
I'm also already claiming my Facebook page for the website with my 'for sale' items that I will launch soon... Because to me it's clear, Facebook is still pretty much where 'the people are'. And so are my possible future customers.
To keep things in balance I've been enjoying the senators grilling Zuckyzuck about his dirty practices. Every time I see his face I feel like removing myself from Facebook - again. But damn, is that place pretty much irreplaceable? Yes, it very much is.
Fingers crossed for better opportunities in the future. Preferably on Steem. Of course I'll claim at least one felting community once that feature is launched. Who knows how many of those thousands of felters I can get to share their amazing knowledge on Steem?
Yup. I'm torn. Help me.
Can't help you there.
I still use Facebook these days. Not to post. Just messaging people and reacting to posts, etc.
You are forgiven because it’s about felting, the end justifies the means!
Ha, thanks! Someone who understands. I can't wait to show you some of the results as I know you love your wool :D
Looking forward to it!
facebook has its uses. and thats exactly what i do. i use it. i don't support it, nor do i give it permissions or information to the best of my ability.
maybe you cd consider bringing those felters to steemland?? and if you think about investing... you know where to go.
Yes - that's the right way to word it, "I use it, I don't support it". I should make a disclaimer for every comment or post I make on that platform :D
Yes - see my last paragraph - If we have the communities feature I'm definitely going to try. Onboarding communities has a chance as 'they' will already know each other and Steem won't be such a big scary place. Then slowly but surely introduce them to #creativecoin, then to the whole 'Steem picture'. The smaller the unit we can onboard people in, the bigger the chance of getting them hooked - I think/hope/predict.
u go grl!!
:) :) :) :P
So, how do you feel now...you cheater?
I feel Yuck.
And I feel excited with all the knowledge I gained.
Help! It's confusing.
Oh no lady...you'll get out of this mess all by yourself. hahaha
Jokes aside, It ain't a bad thing to visit overcrowded places from time to time
Lol! You are right - I made the mess, I clean up the mess.
I'll work on it :D
And yes, the crowds are fun - the trick will be for me to keep on checking if I get more out of using the platform then it 'costs' me in time and mental health :P And if the time spent on there keeps me from building the one place that could possibly replace it, which is of course Steem.
<3
Nothing wrong with using Facebook. Just remember to share some good Steem articles over there to spread the love :)
upvoted for the cool art, did you make that black facebook logo? we should make a black upside down FUCkbook token for steemengine use it to pay people who delete their facebook OR NO who USE facebook to promote steem :) Use charities to get around the crypto shadow bans, facebook may ban us steem users or shadow man us, but they wouldnt ban a SJW LGBTQ group that uses steem would they? We will get GLAD on their asses for discriminating against a platform that is the only hope of LGBT Iranians or Russians, to express themselves. IMAGINE if we went down that road and FORCED the Left SJW people to buya nd promote steem for HUMAN RIGHTS issues?
Hehe - thanks! Glad you liked the art. The black 'F' I found on a free-to-use icon site, from there I created the thumbnail.
I think actively convincing people to promote Steem on Facebook with some sort of FB token is a cool idea :D And have an extra huge bonus for people who can prove they removed their Facebook profile all together - of course only after they tried to convince their friends/family/communities to come to Steem.
It's a huge challenge though - Facebook has a strong pull to many. Not to the younger generations though - we also need to figure out where the 'young people' hide and market Steem over there - I have a feeling they will need less convincing to come over here :-) (Especially if we have a well-functioning mobile app - can't go without mobile to the younger ones!)
Damn how come no one has come up with that before. Thats a perfect idea. Lol.

Honestly, sometimes I wonder what is there on Facebook. It never gives me the same addiction as twitter and other forum boards. Maybe it's just me being asocial. I've been wanting to check Facebook because e-com guru said it's a good place to make money off boomers.
Yes, I know generations younger than me (ghees am I that old?) never got addicted to Facebook. But there's definitely a lot 'to get' on Facebook if you're willing to spend some time and money on advertisement.
Yeah, so i've heard. I mean literally people spend money on ads and attending seminars on "how to make ads for facebook and profit". It's still bewildering to me how people buy goods solely because advertisement that tells them they'll be rich, beautiful, or whatever if they use x product.
Yup, it's magic :D If you feel good about making money from naive people there's loads to do online, lol.
The convenience trap.
The fall is long - still didn't hit the ground.
It’s OK. Facebook is excellent for many things. It wouldn’t be so popular if it completely sucked.
Without Facebook I never would have found people I travelled with back in my early 20’s. And for that I am eternally grateful. Plus, it helps for keeping in touch with friends/family who are far away more easily. And it is a great way to find out about events in my city, or to help people find lost pets, etc, etc.
I think Facebook has some pretty evil things happening, like making their employees watch killings, suicides, terrorism for 8 hours a day with '9 minutes a day of supervised (!) mental health breaks'... It gives me goosebumps. Then taking their mental health care after they leave the job even though they leave with/because of trauma.
And yeah, it's freaking convenient too and it has made a lot of good things possible in my/our lives as well. But I'm having an honestly hard time forgiving myself for 'making them money' by using their site.
Sigh.
Which is why we need Steem to succeed, more than all the other stuff.
Damn - I can't stop watching this.
It's you falling back into the facebook wormhole :)
I recognized myself - definitely. Also noticing it's an endless loop...
:'(
Cries and goes to find a Facebook Support Group on... Fb
Sometimes you got to wade in the muck to catch the golden pig! :OD
Can't wait for that golden pig to hug me so I can wash my hands (in innocence :P) after!
Lol!
Honestly a large appeal of facebook is it's Groups (aka: communities). That ability for anyone to create a community and have people join and contribute/access specific information. Something Steem has been trying to figure out for some time.
Yes! That's why from a user standpoint I'm way more excited about Communities than SMT's :D If we can onboard the smaller communities and go from there we have a real chance of expanding our user base.
Bad girl!
Shame on you :)
Joking aside I have started to consider to give in, too. Facebook is a powerful tool and the approach "I use it, I don't support it" is somehow reassuring...
Sorry! :')
Yes - it's really powerful and you can connect with so many different people for so many purposes... Just don't give into the 'checking fb 10 times a day' - but use it for the exact goal you have in mind.
I will forgive you if you do :P (Please forgive me too :D)
@soyrosa lool.To keep things in balance I've been enjoying the senators grilling Zuckyzuck about his dirty practices. Every time I see his face I feel like removing myself from Facebook - again. I couldn't have said it better myself. Thank you soo much for nominating my previous post. Being relatively new to steemit, I was shooketh to say the least when I received those upvotes. Its only now that I'm back to using partiko that I realized where the upvotes came from. Once again thanks a mill. I stopped using facebook after the cambrige analytica scandal tbh. Didn't miss it for a thing. I guess for the education part it is a great deal still. I see steemit devs branching into tutorial video dapps that heavily focus on soft skills in the near future. That would just about complete the blockchain. With @Dtube coming in full force. I see exciting times ahead. From steemian to fellow steemian, now would be the perfect time to create a shopping dapp I think. Just so we can buy all those awesome things only steemians know how to create.

I did the same thing. Several months ago I rejoined, so I could see what my extended family was up to and to keep in touch about an upcoming reunion and anniversary celebration. I am just letting my closest family of about 20 people see my post. I do put steemit stuff on there. But I refuse to go to any of their ad's sites or read anything they suggest...I think it helps me feel better about being there.
I understand the feeling that on Facebook there is a community or group for anything or for any geographic group that you can imagine, it is not in vain that it is the most successful social network of its kind.
Personally, I think that each of the platforms that I usually use specializes in something, be it in microblogs such as twitter, photo-blog as instagram, videos on YouTube and so on for each case.
In the case of STEEM I find that the penetration of Steemit for blogs or Dtube for video or applications for audio and other things in this blockchain, do not have enough dissemination or advertising, in addition to some extent I have found one or another complication to share content in them.
I do not complain about steemit, after all I usually use the Steempeak front-end, but if I have a bad experience with Dtube because of the fact that adding videos cannot be compared with the ease with which this task can be performed on Vimeo or Youtube or other platforms.
I really want the popularity of the blockchain steem to increase, not only because of the economic benefit that it can bring to the participants, but also because I really have hope in a decentralized social network model and with a moderation on the part of the users, in addition to provide some degree of reward for the content generated...
Greetings dear friend @soyrosa.
Trying to fight FB would be a losing battle. Then we simply "use" it, take advantage of it, to achieve our true purposes.
But you know what? The majority of FB users are consumers, not creators. They like to just watch. They enjoy the finished products.
Of course there are also many creators, they take advantage of the majority of those who only like to "watch".
We Steem lovers should only use FB as a platform to attract new users.
Your friend, Juan.
Seriously. Feel same about natural medicine communities on Fuckerbook. Sooo much people. So many info. Steembook, come on!!!!

I can't believe you tried Reddit yet still chose Facebook over it.
:'( HELP ME! This was all I could find on Felt: https://www.reddit.com/r/Felt/ What am I doing wrong :D
