I imagine that in not too long we will see different apps (steemit.com being just one of them) that read and write content to the blockchain and transact with steem. Let say, for example, a steem twitter-like app takes off where posts are limited to 140 characters. Within the context of that app, things look fine. But when that content is seen through steemit.com it would look really bizarre to see a ton of 140 character posts. I'm not totally familiar with how how steemit.com reads content from the blockchain.. so I'd love some clarification on this. Do all steem based apps inevitably access and display the same content? Is it possible to have multiple different apps (and thus communities) live on the steem network or will they all essentially be clients for steamit.com?
It should display all the same content but in a different way, like Steemd.com shows it in a different format but same information.
This seems like it could become a big problem as the steem app ecosystem expands. Something in one app context (or community) may seem low quality, but actually be quite good in a different context.
I would stick to steemit and never login to any other website, id be afraid of them getting my keys.
Yeah good point. It would be nice if Steemit offered OAuth and an API at some point so that 3rd party apps don't actually need the user's real keys, but instead get a revokable access token. There would also need to be a way for users to limit the amount of funds that an app can access to lower risk. Without these things it's hard to imagine an app ecosystem growing around steem (except for simple apps that don't require auth like steemstats).
