[HELP ME] What key points should we focus on to promote STEEMIT to a wider audience?

in #steem9 years ago (edited)

If a crypto news article was being published regarding STEEM/STEEMIT what points of interest would we want covered

As suggested by the title i would like to have the communities inputs as to the most important and exciting aspects of STEEM with the focus of providing a basis for news article's to be written in the future.

The point you bring up can be scoped at crypto audience or a 'normal' non crypto user; and there is no wrong answers.

Please tell me your thoughts; please don't limit yourself; but here is a few suggestions:

  • What excite's you about STEEM?
  • What advantages do you see in STEEMIT over Reddit?
  • Where do you see the future of STEEMIT ?
  • Are you excited that STEEM content is hosted on an immutable Graphene based blockchain?
  • How do you see the growth of STEEMIT's user base over time?
  • Do you see STEEMIT being the best and earliest source of breaking news due to the financial incentives?
  • What were your first thoughts when first learning about STEEM? were you sceptical? if so, what were your points of concern?
  • any other aspects or comments you see as important?

Appreciate the input and if you can curate others response's, so we get an idea on what the community as a whole see's as valuable.

What excite's you about STEEM?

The whole vision of introducing a new economic model for the internet. I see Steem as a viable alternative to the two existing ones: consuming ads or paying tips / subscriptions. Steem is the third option, unknown until now. Steem is the way the economic backbone of internet should work.

What advantages do you see in STEEMIT over Reddit?

I know it's the easiest path to go, but please try to avoid positioning Steem as a better version of Reddit. Steem is so much more than this. Did Steve Jobs compare iPhone to existing phones? Be bold. This is our Richie Finestra moment.

Where do you see the future of STEEMIT ?

Expand into simple prediction markets - let the process of curation evolve into a prediction market. Betting on posts' popularity can easily become viral, it will create demand for the core token and also it will be good for efficient discovery of quality content. Than expand into music and videos. And at the same time build a payment system around Steem dollar.

Are you excited that STEEM content is hosted on an immutable Graphene based blockchain?

I appreciate Graphene for personal reasons but obviously it's not something that excites non-technical people. For me, all it does is give assurance that the platform has solid foundations and will scale easily.

What were your first thoughts when first learning about STEEM? were you sceptical? if so, what were your points of concern? Any other aspects or comments you see as important?

My main concerns are these:

  • I know it's beta and things are rough but even at this stage there should warnings for non-technical people about the importance of keeping their private keys safe. As it is know, I'm sure there will be cases of lost funds, not necessarily stolen but just lost/forgotten passwords. People should be clearly warned that on a blockchain there are different rules and there is no such thing as password recovery.

  • Sooner or later bad actors will appear using Steem to promote illegal stuff. My concern is how responsible the community is going to be in handling such cases. We need to strike a good balance between lack of censorship and not provoking legal actions against steemit.

  • The current policy of generous upvotes for introductions is nice but it might backfire once people start abusing it. Steem might be then perceived as naive and sloppy with spending its funds. Also, it might be misleading and cause disappointments in the future.

Some points:

  • Steem offers a platform for uncensorable discussion. Lately there have been a lot of unsatisfied people wishing that there were a better platform than Facebook, Twitter or Reddit. There is real demand that Steem can satisfy.
  • Steem is a social media platform and a payment network. This is great combination which will give big boost for the network effect.
  • Steem is addictive. Early adopters are really liking it which is very promising.
  • People who are not earlier have been into cryptocurrencies are using Steem. It's clear indication that Steem has a real world usecase. It's not just another pump'n'dump coin like most of other cryptoprojects.

I think STEEMIT is the 'killer app' that bitcoin was looking for in terms of getting crypto currencies into the hands of everyday people (50+% of which use social media on a daily basis).
The other thing that drives me to this conclusion is my personal experience with they everyday person and their reactions to STEEMIT vs Bitcoin. STEEMIT is a much easier product to market and once they have Steem Dollars in their wallet they are a lot more likely to look at the rest of the digital currency space with an open mind.

I think a mobile app would definitely help in the long term, not sure if ones in the making but a very user friendly, easy to use app I think would work wonders for mainstream adoption. An easy to use site on a mobile device would work short term but personally if there's an app for something that functions properly, I use it guaranteed. I also agree with the above that word of mouth being probably the best way to bring in additional members, I see no reason why that can't work with this.

The payment appeal is super cool in my opinion and I think that alone should drive a fair bit of traffic but for those not involved in the crypto world the steem dollars and steem power may not seem as "shiny". When people take an interest if they're say not so computer savvy, we may just have to show some people what to do with their SP and SMD (I'm not entirely sure about everything I can do with them at the moment either, I've read the whitepaper but I need to read it again... and again lol). I think some tutorials showing and clearly explaining the different ways to use the SMD and SP as well as exchanging them would be a nice little base to help guide people to show how they can be valuable to people outside the crypto world perhaps?

I think STEEMIT will grow to be the goto source for breaking news stories and information as the financial incentive's especially for scarce or unknown information will be high.
You could post it to reddit or a blog but you will not see any financial reward for that; you could post it on Steemit and link to it on other platforms and get the same traffic with money in your pocket- i think that is huge and i am sure Fuzzy agrees +5%

User base and ease of use, is the most important to focus on, word of mouth is the best marketing tool in existence, if each person brings about 5 or so friends, steemit growth will be much much quicker.
All the tech behind steemit is amazing, but in the end that's not what will interest the average user, and the average user is what will make steemit in the end. When I try to explain steemit to people who are involved in crypto it's like explaining how bitcoin works back in 2011. The problem is people who are involved in crypto somehow have been programmed to look for short term gains, it's hard to to explain this new tech to someone who is only interested in trading altcoins. So now I just tell people steemit is a social network startup that is giving them free shares when they signup and post, what have they got to lose? after all how many of us would have refused a free share in facebook/reddit/twitter if they were offered that opportunity early on..

It seems to me likely that steemit will not only shake reddit's world but also medium, and beyond. It would be interesting to see, since my steemit wallet is so handy, if i'd be more inclined to pay/tip a content producer (i.e. photographer) for goods available directly from posts.

I'll definately be watching steemit closely.

Should have email recommendations like Pinterest dose. "We found some fresh Pins for you"

the interest payment on steem dollars is what excites me the most.

Yes; i had forgotten about the 10% p/a intrest until recently; also the maker taker fees on the internal maker could go hand in hand with that

I think that one of the best aspects is that's it's open source, the fact that everybody can post and the market (the audience) decides is huge, because it bypasses the gate-keepers and that's no small thing.

Think about the success of Medium, only better because Steemit incentivises content creators !

What we can do to help Steem grow? Maybe spread the world and get influencers to talk about Steemit (I wonder what the Steemit team thinks about this) for example Gary Vaynerchuck and others always talks about Medium, maybe we should get some well known influencers with a big audience to talk about Steemit? Is it a good idea? I don't know guys, what do you think?

What Excites me: Free Speech and Financial Incentive for Quality.
What advantage of reddit?: Free Speech and Financial Incentive for Quality.
Future? Changing the landscape of the way social media is done
First Thought? THIS IS GOING TO BE HUGE!

I think India is going to be a key factor for the development of Steemit as the site is english based and a lot of people are far from earning a correct salary or any kind of earnings, this will surely attract a big part of Indians and thus make Steemit's growth skyrockets. By the way blogging isn't like mining coins because you don't need a miner to earn money but only a computer and some thoughts and thats why I seriously believe in Steemit's future

My two cents: actively recruit writers from Medum. There are tons of talented writers making ZERO there. My one concern is that the click bait self-help gurus will soon invade and take over this nice place.

There is so much to love about STEEMIT, but one thing occurred to me today and made me chuckle my ass off:
Lots of people are going to join STEEMIT with zero intentions of interacting with STEEM, but when inevitably they are rewarded for positive contributions, they will have no choice but to investigate this crypto stuff. LMAO
STEEMIT is good for STEEM
STEEMIT is good for BITCOIN
STEEMIT is good for CRYPTO
The revolution has begun. The killer app for cryptocurrency is... giving it away :)

lol what is this, spamming a steemit post with another?

I think its a hommage post to reddit :)
