When I joined Steem over three years ago I saw great potential. It has yet to achieve that, but I am still here and working to build it up. Part of that has been being part of @SteemFlagRewards to deal with people who just take without giving back or adding value. It is supposed to be about rewarding good content with Proof of Brain and not Proof of Greed.
I seem to have picked up some 'enemies' along the way, but all they can do is downvote my posts and that is really no big deal. I am not depending on Steem income and anything I make is a bonus. For now it is all powered up anyway. I have not taken any out for ages and I do not self vote.
The last few days have seen this sort of behaviour.
It really does not matter. This person was abusive in comments to me, but I will not sink to their level. I cannot even remember if I downvoted them before, but that would only have been for disagreement over rewards and not out of spite. In any case they get downvoted to nothing by others anyway, so I will not waste my voting power on them.
This may result in some of my comments getting hidden by default, but some good people have been canceling them out. Big thanks to @themarkymnark for doing that and actually boosting my reputation score. Not many people can reduce it anyway.
What keeps me coming back to Steem is the community. I have met so many good and dedicated people here. I know some of them are a bit dispirited by the lack of progress and the negative effects HF21 could have on many of us, but I am not going anywhere. There is still lots of important work to be done. I am still a fairly small fish with just a few cents in votes, but I will do what I can.
If you want to help out in making Steem better then I recommend talking to the @SteemFlagRewards community. Join their Discord. Even if you do not want to downvote you can give them some support. You will have free downvotes very soon, so consider using those. If we coordinate our actions it can have a big impact.
I am really not interested in getting into fights and arguments, but the positive vibes I get here more than make up for the negative.

Can’t please everyone. You are bound to get haters along the way. I get downvoted from time to time. Just gotta get used to it. Markys pretty cool, nice of him to help you cancel those downvotes out.
I am used to it. I have had big flags before and it's no big deal really as the money is not that important.
It’s pretty ridiculous that some come here just to stir the pot and start some shit. I definitely need to be more proactive in downvoting some of that nonsense going forward. Kudos sir!
It's all part of the freedom of Steem. You are free to be a dick if you want. Thanks for your support.
That should be our tagline or slogun.

This must be like pissing into the wind. Sometimes I imagine having such a shitty life that I have nothing better to do than to just suck value out of something. I don't really need to imagine though, I can just witness it first hand watching this tragic display of wasted synapses and mouse clicks.
Why don't you drop on by and downvote all of my stuff, it's less people you can downvote that actually give a shit.
Oh yeah, almost forgot to leave a mention. @kawaiicrush
The whole downvote thing is stupid when where isn't any guidelines x)
I hate when people downvote you or someone else just from having a different opinion than you.
And if you downvote someone please explain why otherwise its not gonna do jack shit.
But all of the abuse and cope/paste shit should be downvote and explained why.

We have a lot of freedom here. There are no rules, but we can set our own community guidelines of what is acceptable. Those who are antisocial are unlikely to do well.
Ye true.
Community guidelines would be awesome :D

You're absolutely right not to bother retaliating.
My concern is what leads to someone spending so muxh effort hating someone they've never met.
They must be very lonely - people in general would steer clear of such negative people.
Lets just hope they haven't got anyone snared in an abusive relationship, that's the only reason anyone's likely to put up with them for the long term.
I'm not going to speculate too much. It could all be an act for all we know and I will not make any further accusations.
I do love this community. I am lucky to have not had much in the way of negative experiences other then what I do to myself. 😄
I'm sorry you have had to deal with this kind of BS. I have read many of your post and they all have been at a level quality that does not deserve a downvote. I think once we start cleaning this place up these bad actors will see this is no place for them.
