@theycallmedan put out this challenge. He asks about the bonds we have built on Steem. He suggests we select three or more people who matter to us.
I could list plenty of people. There are a few Steemians I knew before I joined in the 'real' world or on the Tsu social platform, but I have got to know many more in my 3.5 years here. I have met many of them in person at Steemfest or other events. Here are a few of them.
@detlev, @slobberchops and myself at the Steemfest 3 bowling evening.
- @katharsisdrill is an artist from Denmark who I found fairly early on when I saw his Phill From GCHQ comic. I now follow lots of comic artists, but I hit it off with this guy even though we have never met. I have bought art and some 3d printed figures from him for Steem. He has stayed active most of that time and is currently working on a physical version of his comic using a crowdfunder.
- I picked up on @slobberchops when he was starting out on Steem and struggling with it. I encouraged him to keep going. He has gone on to invest in Steem enough to reach orca level. He has become a key part of the @SteemFlagRewards anti-abuse effort and has instigated several post themes. He has recruited a few people and is working to build an urbex (urban exploring) community. We have met up at Steemfest and Steemcamp UK. We also chat a lot on other channels.
- @detlev was on Tsu and has become Mr Beer on Steem running the Beer Saturday project which has its own token. He has got involved with running the Steemfest conferences. We met up at those and shared a few beers. I also saw him when he was over in London on business. Maybe I will make it to one of his Aachen meetups one day.
- I met @revisesociology at Steemfest 3 where we did some running. As you may guess from his username he is in education, but has a wide range of interests including ecology. I have run into a lot of very smart people through Steem and the conversations when we get together are always deep. At multi-day events like Steemfest people lose their voices as there is so much to say.
- @adetorrent is a ray of light on Steem with his photography, drawings and outgoing personality. We have met numerous times and he came to my local 'crypto walk'. He is another who invested heavily in Steem. I have never been much of an investor, but I learn a lot from guys like him.
I post suggestions of people to follow (almost) every week in #FollowFriday. Steem needs better user discovery.
Steem on!
Well I Recognise one ugly mug already from the help He has given me as a noob on here @slobberchops
I hear he has been talking to you a lot. I hope you are getting the hang of this Steem thing. I know it is very different to other sites and it's complicated. But you gain in freedom and potential rewards. I would hope the urbex community will grow and become self-sustaining. You are one of the pioneers!
Thanks Steve without @slobberchops guidance and encouragement I would have given up!
He may tell you that the same happened with me coaching him :) I don't want people to leave Steem if they have something to offer. Now he's got a lot more Steem than me, but then he bought loads. You don't have to do that. I just invest what I can afford to lose, but of course I hope Steem will do well.
He did mention it! Though nothing was said about a cash involvement! hmm?
As you well know, I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you and @heymattsokal, and a certain conversation long ago. I have tried to find it as it was a turning point, but can't.
It's on the chain somewhere, and maybe not on my own post. Thank you for all your early support, I kind of relied on you in the first few months to keep me going.
Little did you know what you were in for ;) I consider every good Steemian to be valuable and you have inspired me in turn.
I'll try an @tipu curate but I think I'm out of mana!
Chuffed to make yer top few!
And connecting with you is defo one of my Steem highlights Steve!
I'm presently looking at a spreasheet I've cut down to 185 Steemians I follow.
With categories.
This is a great initiative by @theycallmedan
Was sad to see ade has PD'd - and probably at quite a loss. At least he's still earning!

I'm celebrating a park run pb today. Unexpected by 4 seconds, possibly because I started right at the front... makes a difference I think!
No problem. It was great to get to know you. I cannot follow many more people or I would never get off Steem. Trying to keep the quality of my feed high.
I was reading about someone trying the radical Nike shoes on a parkrun and getting a big PB. Would it feel like cheating? I hope to get back to some running soon when I get over this cold. Will try to do plenty of walking in the meantime.
Cheers!
I've thought the same about those shoes... they do seem to make a bit difference and it is an issue the more 'tech' you can cram into a small space.
Shoes aside I can really recommend doing intervals - I've done quite a bit of speed work (400s/ 200s/ 302010s) and I hit 3Ks today and just felt 'I'm running faster and it feels natural'- it was defo the intervals. I overheard another guy who got a PB (18 mins something) saying the same thing.
It's all about the intervals. Less is more.
In the meantime, walking is good.
That must be one hell of a cold!

I have been doing more intervals in the last few months and I see improvements. Will get back on them soon. This is my worst cold in a while. It's been a week and still feel like shit, but may be back at work on Monday.
Sounds like you've had it pretty bad!
Here's hoping you're back on track by next week, don't force yourself though!
@steevc you have received

A solid set of picks here Steve 😁
A lot of the people I communicate most with these days were met via Steem. It's been more productive that other social media for that.
Yeah I feel like Steemfest and meets boost an accounts longevity on chain - they got mates here, even more incentive.
You missed a play on words there.
I’m nicer than that! And not smart enough 😁
Oh I was thinking a nice play on words...
Picks and @steevc used to do (still does?) the guitar pics thing.
Flysky loves you.
I love the fact that his DV power is at 6%!
I'm lucky, I only seem to get a DTim DV every few days.
I checked the spelling of picks before the previous reply and i think it's a guitar pick, so maybe the play on words stands after all?!
He does love me, which is fine. I'll just keep on commenting and see if that VP can get even lower :D
Oh maybe it does.
How do you even set up something to vote on comments anyway?
Yes, just keep commenting!
Maybe on his own posts? Or those he resteems?
