Yesterday i've written a frontpage post making about 6k. But you know what?
I DONT CARE ABOUT THE MONEY IT MADE!
What matters to me, is the number of votes i got, not the amount in dollar.
What matters to me, are the comments users left as feedback that warmed my heart and motivated me.
If you're here soley to see how many $ your article will get, you're in the wrong place.
I'll take 500 votes with 50$ over 5 votes with 500$ any day, any article.
I've just replied this on a topic complaining about whale powers, but it's a good, short post worth having it's own life. The article can be found right here
Coming from Reddit, posts are ordered based on the number of votes. But what makes me stick to Reddit is the ability to express my opinion, and discuss the topic with other people from around the world. That's what kicks me.
It's the same for Steemit, with the added bonus of the possibility of earning something.
That said, right now, for most people here, it is most definitely about the money earned.
Good feedback!
exactly!!
I completely agree
Thx for reading my post @vlad
Never listen to the nay sayers... Always do you no matter what! Keep Steeming #steem One Love
True wise words!
Indeed!
you got it :) thanks
tbh it's the same thing on the whale side .. i'm not caring about voting to get best monetary outcome, i'm upvoting what i think deserve to upvote not the other way around.
Anyway happy steeming
It seems like the majority doesn't get that part of the story yet.
I'm driven by passion, not by dollars :-) Thanks for the vote
great post you have my up-vote its not worth much but i guess you are ok with that :)
Like i said, it's not the amount in $ that matters, a vote is a vote meaning you like the post :)
Thanks for your vote
I upvoted You
So you don't care about money. You should not care about votes either. You should only care about creating what you value.
But the money and votes represent the steemit communitys ability to value your creation.
Votes value your post regardless of the money they bring along.
This is so true @steve-walschot, I'm very passionate about my country and I love the fact that through the use of this powerful platform we can place Colombia in the map, besides the monetary issue involved. I'm not an expert blogger, writer, youtuber, etc but I've found a hidden passion in writing and there's no better feeling than to let all your thoughts, emotions, ideas out and is very gratifying when people appreciate what you talk to them about through the articles. I use instagram and facebook a lot to publish pictures about my life and my country but none of them ever went past 60 likes and the day I published for the first time to the public worldwide on steemit i had about 379 uptvotes and that was a feeling I had never felt and can't describe.
Greetings from Colombia!
Thank you!
Nice! Keep it up!
Well said sir, if this site becomes solely about just making dollars its going down the drain unfortunately. This is a blogging website yes, but people are becoming toxic when they post something and don't get whales attentions.
Greed always kills
really well said @steve-walschot 8]
Thanks!
That's true. Thanks for your sharing. After reading your frontpage post, I am interested in your security audit experience.
Thank you
yawn yet another post bashing critics to appease the whales.
critics are essential in bringing steemit forward and improving it, just like they are essential in any democratic society.
Did you see any wale around this post?
As a blogger I agree with you 100%, I was working on google ads and steemit in my opinion is much more easy than blogging on blogspot or wrodpress, some some 1k visit don't worth a cent, I believe in steemit and I know that soon or later I will make money, thank you for this wonderful post hope you keep giving good posts for steemians
Thank you @ben99 for your feedback
You deserve better than a comment bro
How nice, thanks!

Thanks for the comment
Great thinking Steve-walschot, i appreciate your thoughts and warm wishes for you here in STEEM community.
Thank you @shaheer001
That's the spirit, but there is something paradoxal on Steemit. With lots of SteemPower, you'll get lot of upvotes even if your post is bad. And in order to get lots of SteemPower you have to get upvotes from whales.
Well, i'm not here to seek confirmation on my posting quality, i'm here to share and contribute.
To many users are hoping for massive amounts of upvotes, but in reality, 30-ish votes and you're gone at the bottom of the feeds
It's a bit of a double edged sword that the default page is 'trending' and thus what many users see as the main content is directly linked to how upvoted and well earning the posts are. I definitely agree that it's all about value and passion, but I can be the devil's advocate and see how the default view of the network is stacked in favor of the money.
That said, I'm excited for the future and the changes to come. And I may have a steemit addiction.
Agree with you . my post get 19$ about 40 upvote . i knew how good if all that 40 person are whales seeing all those upvote is okay for me . :)
If you dont mind please do drop by in my blog check my stuff up thanks !
I'll check your blog later today, but the need to share and contribute should not be mixed with the feelings to get votes ;-)
Passion keep motivation up money keep inspirations coming :)
Solid quote, i'll use it one day and link it back to you :)
If i'm allowed :)
Yes you allow to use it :) hopefully u make a great writing with it ;D
You got it right, and unfortunately all this greed is creating tons of 'garbage' content.
Once people understand my post, the greed will stop. But it's in the nature of the beast to lure new users by saying that they'll get payed huge amounts just for posting. So, I understand both sides.
Nice to see your stoic possition but it does not fix the extreme inequality problem
There is none, that's the whole point. 1 vote equals one vote. The weight of the vote changes per user, but are we after votes or after dollars?
Are you happiest having a vote for your work equaling 100$, or 100 votes equaling 20$?
If you choose the first option, then blogging might not be your thing.
My vote values 1cent and some whales vote worths more than 100 usd, i understand must be differences but so so so huge?
I've been following you and I truly enjoy your article. I'm glad that more comments and upvotes motivate you to contribute more. When I post in reddit, I'm glad that people read it and engage discussion with about about the post. Via those discussion, I gain more knowledge and insight about the topic. It's sad that Steem become toxic as people downvoting for no reason (Well I downvote if the post in wrong category) and a lot of complain post regarding whale voting each other topic their post on top. Initially I thought of that also until one of the Steem user explain to me. My suggestion to you, screw the naysayers and downvoters (Unless you got downvoted due to posting in wrong category). Haters will hate. Keep writing and contributing to this community. There's a lot of good people out here looking forward to gain new knowledge and insight. N I'm one of fan of your writings and always looking forward to your post and engage with your on more fruitful discussion.
Thanks for your warm feedback, appreciate it!
I noticed some people downvoting very popular posts. That's really a sad thing to do. Maybe we should keep track of such people and all downvote them together anytime they make a post or reply.
I explain at Area 51 how Steemit is free market opinion machine.
https://steemit.com/area/@steve-mcclair/area-51-steemit-has-arrived#comments
Lol, man. That's my article you are referring at. I didn't complain about their power. I complained about the way they are using their power. Especially the whale using a bot to vote on a predetermined group of posters was my concern.
Of course the number of votes are important too. But I want those votes to be the result of people seeing real value in my post. Not because people saw 2 whales voted me and then suddenly everyone starts jumping on it because it is a trending post that will generate money when they upvote me. This is also expressed in the article.
Live your PASSION, and dont let a single thing get in your way, even a number.
Rest assured :-)

It's humans like you that gives humans like me hope. Thank you
That KS!
Didn't you copy-pasted that article? I've read and upvoted it earlier today
Yup it's a copy paste.
