Been thinking a lot about Steemit lately.
Mostly, I've been thinking about how it's still growing as a platform. Lots of promising projects are on the horizon, with SMTs and the like, but with the current cryptocurrency downturn, the price of Steem is taking a slide.
So the question remains: is now the time to buy Steem Power?
And I honestly don't know if I will. Yes, Steem is cheap at the moment, but so are a lot of other potential investments. It's hard to make a solid choice one way or the other. And, of course, the price could slide still lower.
I've kicked myself for not buying in back when it was $0.07 per Steem, but I doubt we'll ever see prices that low again (it's just too much to hope for), but is the current price the real bottom? That is the question.
One Other Matter
I have a modest amount of Steem power already (less than 6000 SP). And almost all of that has come as rewards from blogging on the platform. I bought about 100 SP back in July of 2016 and from that seed have grown to where I am today.
Knowing that most of my SP has been earned fills me with a sense of pride and accomplishment. If I power up, and multiply my SP several times over, will I still be able to point to my success on the platform as a result of my good writing, or will it just be due to the money I put into it?
That makes me hesitant to make a move.
Still, I can't kick the can down the road forever. I will have to make an up or down decision eventually.
So my question for the community is, "What would you do in my position?"

i think that it good time to buy steem/steem power because in few month SMT may launch and price again BOOM. There is also chances that price may go down but you should take chances.

My opinion is power up till 10,000 SP! Then you can take the seeds and you always keep a nice investment as well!
At this moment is the best time to collection more SP!

in your position I will buy steempower, as I would like to have the resources to increase my steempower, since I only own 80 sp and my vote has no value yet, but that is everyone's taste .. @talanhorne you are calm because your power of vote is 5000 sp and can give a favorable vote to all your followers and that helps a lot to your blog .. in my case as my vote has no value I do not get followers and my effort is being in vain, since I keep using pure bot, so that my blog does not have pure zero ..
You're a good knowledge person about writing and it's very difficult.

I had bought when Steem price was about $3,5 :) I think it is better time to buy.
Oh yeah, now the markets see a decline in prices of Steem, but in my opinion this is a common phenomenon for all cryptography, as in previous years it was in the spring that this phenomenon was observed and now many are buying. As for the Steem now the same good time for the purchase of the SP, it is possible that the Steem is still not going down much, but not significantly. Thank you @talanhorne

My first priority is to strengthen Steem Power. I am not sure how much steem will down in recent blood bath but already loosing almost 50% of market value in 3 week or so i think it's the right time to invest in Steem. It will not only strengthen currency but will also give hope to people who are frustrated due to blood bath in crypto currency
well rewards earned from the steemit are the best thing and you seem to have done really well over the time hat's off
steem is going to be more cheap i think because btc dominance is been growing consistently now but still anyone who want it can get it because its potential is huge and we have seen it : )

I most believe steem price will be rise again. But we all waiting to see SMTs coming out. Still this period patience is a valuable key. You giving useful details to us.
You bought steem at 0.7 $ that means you are on of the early adopters of steemit. It really difficult to make choices in these difficult situations because price can go down more so its a risky situation but i believe that if you buy at current price which 1.80 $ you will not in loss. Well seeing that you have bought only 100 SP and the rest of the amount has been earned as rewards has really inspired me. You are absolutely right to say that you can't stay like this, you have to make an up or down decision. But if I were in your place I would take an up decision. But I would wait for a week or two.

With steam under 1.84$ its time to power up,need to look at this as long ternm investment,this is just my idea thanks a lot for sharing.
yes ... this is the perfect time to power up. this time steem pries is low . if you buy steem coin this time , when steem coin prise is up defenetly you got many profit..steem was 7.31$, now steem is 1.83$. if i have some money this time i buy some steem and power up.

You are right @talanhorne because its the best chance and golden chance for powering up . After some time steem rate is take their place and more grow and this time its price will be on 50 + then a user will say about their work to other that '' O listen I got 0.01 steem in my wallet '' and this time he will be so happy for their work

I think this is the best time make many post .....and you should power up in this very moment....the price has been too low past week .....i dont think steem will hit this low again.....
Invest in this it will make you a profit in a way no one can imagine.....
Coz once you reach that level , that level when your posts make more than 100$ ...you wont be needing any money anymore.....
Consult some whale, may they could give better suggestions.......
