Six months ago I wrote a post about the one percenters on the platform and gave a breakdown of the accounts in various SP range.
There are 9637 accounts with more than 500 SP in their wallet and THEY ARE ALL 1 percenters in regards to total Steemit accounts.
That was May 23rd and the price of Steem was 3.08.
I thought it would be interesting since Steem is about 10x less to have a look at if there has been a change in the numbers at all. There have been quite a few people powering up. Here is the table thanks to @abh12345
As we can see, the numbers have changed and in some groups, significantly.
There are now
- 255 more dolphins in the 5k - 50k range,
- 11 new orcas in the 50-100k range, and
- 25 more in the 100k+ range.
Is this a good result for 6 months? I don't know but other than the drop in the 60-70k range (which is likely a shift up on the scale to larger) all are in the green. This is still very far from healthy but distribution is slowly getting better and the more price drops the and people buy in, the better the distribution will continue to become.
The more this happens, the less influence the large staked players have on the pool draw and i the words of @taskmaster4450 "The whales are losing their power."
This also means that there is a growing number of diverse users with some stake who could use it to influence the system in various ways from voting directly on authors work or supporting through the various applications that are popping up all over the place.
As I have said many times, when it comes to a healthy platform there needs to be a fa middle where there are a large number of accounts between the 5 and 100k range that are able to roam the waters and distribute stake. Often, these accounts are also users who have been on the platform for some time and have a decent understanding of the dynamics, making them more valuable than their stake alone.
I think that I will try to coerce @abh12345 into running these numbers every so often as I think it gives an interesting view of the platform.
There is a lot of FUD out there tonight so be careful not to get too emotionally invested. For me, if Steem keeps dropping and I am able to get the job I am after, I am going to risk it and start buying in and hopefully make it into the 50k+ Orca category in the coming months.
By the way, there were 9637 accounts over 500 SP 6 months ago and now there are 10967 making it +1330 or an almost 14% increase in that time.
Speaking of that job though, I have my psych test in the morning so will hit the hay.

I am one of those 644 that made it into the 1k - 5k range in the last 6 months :^)
Congrats and I am glad that people have been powering up :)
Nice one :D
Unless I win the lottery, I’ll never make it to orca. 😅
But if we get through the current Steemit Inc crisis, being a dolphin of any size will be a good place to be. I’m going to keep converting fiat into Steem Power, ideally passing 10k by mid-2019.
Posted using Partiko iOS
Yeah it takes time and for me it will require a fairly sizeable drop at the right time where I have some Fiat :)
I am pretty sure that the Stinc issue will end up being a positive thing once the dust settles and people realise the potential.
Hi Taraz. It is starting to look better now. The longer the price stays down the more everyone will grow. Another 2 or 3 months should do wonders for everyone.
Wow, I had not idea I was a 1%er! I'm still a bit shaken by the restructuring. I was going to add to get to 5K, but now I'm not so sure. Anyway, it's clear for now that Steem will go further down in price for some time.
I have no idea about the price but the restructuring is a good thing in my opinion. not well implemented or announced but shold lead to some decent development.
I am one of the 2 in the 80-90K spot. Soon to 100K. :)
A psychological barrier only perhaps but, the round numbers are nice to surpass. I have a long way to 100 but 50 might be doable at some point. :)
It happens surprisingly much faster than you might think.
Would be intereating to see a brealdown of the less than 100 SP accounts :)
yes, it has been done but I have done it. Perhaps @abh12345 has a script for it? 20 SP intervals?
Thanks :) 20 SP intervals is great

21 hours ago, maybe you have had the interview/test already, how did it go?
Some good news, I am one of those new dolphins since May, small, but still growing and like you, should the prices continue to decline, im going to take a bigger risk too. See you at the top :-)
It went well enough I feel and will find out the results next week. I am not great in testing but the interview components should have been ok :)
The top has no ceiling yet ;)
Yeah I see that it is bottom heavy. the 1 - 5k (Which I am in) is more sparse than I had imagined. Yet they are an area that needs better representation. I cam on in May of 17 and yes this group has been taught a lot. With the blue light special on SP going on it would be tempting to move up the ladder. So far though I have invested only my time and would like to keep it that way. Blessings @tarazkp PS: Enjoyed the chart so much as it gives a visual.
Most do the same but remember that the inflation pool will always be limited regardless of price.
Love it when you break down everything... I hit 500 within the last three months. Something I was unable to do when the prices were up. It has taught me to appreciate low prices and to pay attention to the community at large.
Crossing my fingers for a better future and working hard for it.

It is a good feeling to cross some of these boundaries, if only psychological, as like you say, it makes you appreciate and pay attention differently. Fingers, toes and anything else that can be crossed...
It does. Thank you :)
Good luck with the psych test and hope you get the job
Cheers, me too. It went okay-ish so far :D
These are great statistics and together with the amount of passion seen on the feeds this week demonstrate how and why the protocol will survive and develop with the community taking the lead going forward. I hope to continue moving up that chart in the coming year!

It is very likely going to come together and the latest challenges I think will help success, not hinder it.
Good luck with the test and upcoming interviews!
Also good to see that we are getting a stronger middle class. This was something which was needed to balance things out. We are not there yet but this a big step into the good direction!
Cheers,
Peter
Yep, it is slowly getting there, we might need it to move a bit faster though ;)
Now is an excellent time to be active and work our way up!
Even a post with a value of $1 rewards the author with more than 2 Steem Power.
The only problem we have is to get noticed and get some more upvotes!
We have to be honest and admit that quality isn’t everything. You need to get on the auto vote list of bigger accounts to get a decent chance to move up!
There used to be days that you could earn a decent amount of steem per week by writing genuine comments but with the low value of steem, not a lot of accounts can give an upvote above the dust threshold without destroying their own VP.
But that’s my opinion. These are hard times!
Cheers,
Peter
Well it looks reasonably promising to me.
Best solution for the distribution of STEEM, kick the price down to cents :)
Lol, I am going to buy :D
So I read, looking forward to you having 50k and no dele on your back, 100 SP a week is obtainable, 2 posts a day and a recovery to 80 cents, happy days - apart from the working part :)
I am going to force them to buy in ;)
If it stays low...I’m aiming for 50k tobswim with the Orcas as well. I got a long ways to go but I’m going to just keep chipping away. I need to get crackin on selling a ton of toys and comics that I’ve been a bit lazy about. Going to split that money into 3 chunks. 1/3 pays off CC. 1/3 goes to just normal living expenses, and 1/3 into Steem. Short term goal is 20k by end of Feb. long term will depend on what it does. Hope we can both hit that 50k sometime next year!
Make sure you diversify a little, just in case.
I have been struggling to get to comments of late but bear with me, also, I read your post on struggles and I really hope things work out. My dog is getting on too at 12 and it is going to be a very sad day when the time comes. My daughter loves him.
As for the work issues, my hope is that Steem/crypto will open up some new paths for you in the coming year or two. My hope for me too :D
I currently have funds spread throughout about 10 projects. Although Steem is my largest bag. I like that it basically pays a dividend if I put work into it.
Thanks for the kind words brother. Yeah I’ll be fine. Just in a weird spot right now. In my own head a lot lately and it’s been difficult to right the ship. Gotta dona ton of planning and thinking things through. Hopefully your pup is healthy and will be around for years to come.
Hope all is well for you at home.
Even if you don't to some degree. It is interesting to consider that people spend so much time trading when they could hold, often for the same return.
I think times like this in life are the types of moments we define the next move on the path and rarely is staying still the longterm smart move. good luck on the reflection.
Yup. I like seeing it work for me.
Correct. I think I need to be at this point right now. I think it’ll force my hand a bit to make the necessary changes and restructuring that I’ve been delaying on for some time.
I'm Proudly part of the 500+, but you? Elite =)
I have been both lucky and committed for perhaps too long :D
I remember that post ☺️.. I was excited to be in the 1% whose vote was at that 10cent mark. While my vote is currently not at that level, I’m happy that I have continued to grow my account here.. and will be entering that middle class dolphin range in the next coming months.
Things are rough right now, but it’s also an opportunity.. we just have to keep our heads up and our attitudes positive. Thanks for being you ❤️
:*
There is a lot going on and a level head has a chance to take some opportunity and build healthily during these times. Yes, there is risk but then, it is a much more interesting ride with a great deal more upside than most of life :)
It's great to see the STEEM being filtered throughout the chain. It might be slow but the change is happening.
It takes time considering the startup and first year was so skewed.
This is very encouraging. Thanks for the report. Upvoted and resteemed.
No problem :)
It’s certainly encouraging to see a broader and growing distribution, hopefully people will continue to retain and grow their stake and making good use of it.

There is a lot of potential and despite the challenges it isn't going to be realized through talk alone. People want better distribution, they might have to bite some economic bullets of they can and power up when they can too.
It's interesting to see this growth of higher SP accounts. I guess that the low prices in STEEM encouraged quite a few people to buy and power up.
Also, wish you the best of luck in getting that job!
Posted using Partiko Android
Smaller ones grew too. There are a lot more in the 100-5k range which might be both buying in and also powering up. Those accounts make a difference.
At least it’s growth in a positive direction and since Steem is unfortunately still tied to the confidence of the crypto market and is very much an unknown entity in the social media space is say we making steady moves in the right direction! Sure we can do better but these things compound over time! In tech it takes about 10 years to become an overnight success so we still have enough years to get this puppy into the limelight! Keep powering up and preaching the good news

Yep, there is no fast road to success and there is a hell of a lot of FUD along the way :)
I think we need to get this low in other for things to change and things are indeed changing. Yes, there is a lot of uncertainty given recent events, but I think it is a good thing. Now many of us know what is at stake and we are thinking of ways to solve this poblem. It cannot be left in the hands of steemit inc, they seem tired already. It's now the survival of the fittest. After this period of uncertainty, if we can just hold our heads up just high enough to sustain us through this period, I believe we would have a healthier ecosystem.
One issue we don't talk much about is how difficult it is to purchase steem with fiat. This is one of the barriers impeding the flow of money into the steem. Well, I'm considering buying steemmonster cards since I can pay via PayPal. Tomorrow hopefully I will give it a try. Hopeful I will have 500sp before the year runs out.

This is the way I see it too, this is the testing period :)
This is a decent idea and as far as I have heard, seems to be profitable too.
