STEEM: A Ton Of New Users In The Next Month???? Sign Up Processing Going To Improve Significantly!!!

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

We all know one of the main challenges with Steemit is the sign up process.

At present, it is a manual process that is time consuming. This creates a difficult situation since Steemit wants to prevent bot and spammers from signing up since there is a cost associated with it. However, when someone is excited about something new, the last thing they want to do is wait a week to get started. By then, the helium is out of the balloon.

According to @sneak, who was at a Steemit gathering in Austin, there was a new system put in place two weeks ago. It is still in development so it is not quite making an impact yet. However, he believes that it will get "a lot better, very quickly".

Basically, the old system was part of the main Steemit application. The new one is standalone which will enable development to occur on a much faster basis.

@sneaks timeline for the improved performance is 2-4 weeks.

@pkattera, at the same event, stated that a key priority for the development team is to create programs that automate the sign up process to get people through.

This is welcomed news. We know the interest in the STEEM blockchain is greater than the present number of users who signed up. The fact that the sign up process is so cumbersome has, in my opinion, held down the number of people on here.

By adding more automation to the process, hopefully we will see the numbers jump significantly. We know there are many people marketing this blockchain on sites like Facebook and YouTube. The timing is ideal since both these entities are going on a censorship spree upsetting many of their users.

While it might not be at the pace we desire, things are moving forward.

Be patient...it will all come together.

That is great news. I have a friend that has bee waiting over a week for an account. This is definitely something that needs addressing. I’ve noticed that the number of new accounts created each day has fallen off significantly. I’m wondering if that could be due to the manual process getting behind or if there is actual lack of interest. The Alexa traffic ranking for Steemit is steadily moving toward the number 1 spot, but new accounts are not keeping up. Eventually the growth will stall if something is not done.

There is a good chance that this might be a gamechanger. A lot of people sign in and then forget that they have applied, because they have to wait 1 week for approval ! Hopefully we will see a big increase in the numbers :) Thanks for sharing

If not a game changer, at least moving the platform a lot closer to being a viable alternative for people.

I agree that long approval times make the conversion rate much worse. I am sure many of the initial sign ups simply ignored the acceptance email when they received it. Of course, once they delete it, there goes their log in key meaning they have to start all over again if they want to come back on.

Exactly ! And you say to yourself - " lol, its been 1 week already ! I don't have that kind of patience :)" and you simply ignore it

Working on @thefreshfive where we welcome brand new users and give them a bit of an upvote kickstart and answer any questions... the most common thing new users mention in their introduction posts is the complexity and wait time of the signup process. Half the intro posts I read tell a little story about the battle with this process... so I guarantee you're right. Most people, especially from wealthier countries would forget or have lost interest in the platform a week later... who knows how many investment dollars the system has missed out on?

STEEM is going to go $100.

Look at the rising volume! The sweet accumulation period is about to come to an end. There will be dips along the way, but overall 2018 will be a great trip!

Total accounts created on Steemit
668K+

Daily number of posts
250K+

Daily active users
60K+

Average daily new accounts created
2500 - 12500

And counting!

We use social media every day so why not get paid for it in a cryptocurrency that will increase in value.

Personally, I do not know why anyone would stop using this platform, do you? If you have a few hundred dollars laying around, buy STEEM.

This blockchain is only going to grow with some of the newer things coming out. It is going to be an amazing couple of years.

People holding STEEM are really going to benefit in the long run.

People who are entrenched may not move away but if something better comes up people who are relatively less invested mat move away. That's how everything works in life. This is all the more reason why all the different projects in pipeline are so important for the platform and all of us.

If people are making money, they will stay.

While many look at the heavy hitters and get discouraged, when people compare it to what they were making on FB and YT, it is easy to see what is offered here.

This will only be more likely as the price of STEEM heads higher.

I don't think SBD will reach $100 ever, because if we go by SBD now compare to 3 months earlier,it's almost 3 times of SBD is regulating,so if we go by demand vs supply it doesn't look that promising.$15 could be possible in the next 3 or 4 years.

Awosome, awaiting for that moment petiently

I couldn't agree more.

I did not realize they had it manual process, over 750k users on steemit that were all manually inputted in sounds like a ton of work. A massive boost in membership will likely help push steemit into the spot light. Can't wait.

I hope so....I promoted Steemit to thousands of my customers and only a handful are actually approved now. People are frustrated and are asking me if hey should try to sign up again which I'm sure so many already have and I'm guessing bogging down the approval process.

The smoother the sign up process becomes, the more adoption will follow for sure. :)

I think it is a common situation. Sadly, this might have stunted growth but we are where we are.

The only thing we can do is improve and go forward. It is uplifting to know the developers have it as a priority. At least they are tending to it.

Good point. Yeah they must see how important that is to grow. But like you said, we are where we are....And that's not a bad spot to be in :)

I think this is the main thing that is slowing down the growth of this ecosystem and to hear that it will finally be fixed in about a month ( to be conservative) is huge.
Really brightened my day :) (is foggy and cold where I live )

Yes this is an important move to make.

We know it is going to happen at some point. It is refreshing to know that the development team has it as a priority.

Huh, I thought that faster sign-ups were going to have to wait for HF20. The sooner the better though!

I think to make it a part of the blockchain architecture, that is going to have to take place. Right now it seems they separated it out to work on and develop. Once they have it the way they want, I believe it will end up being hardcoded into the blockchain.

Presently the sign up process all goes through Steemit, something I believe they want to move away from at some point....

But this is just supposition on my part.

2-4 weeks huh? That might be enough to get a comprehensive user guide together for incoming new writers/bloggers. There are huge communities out there, but as you said, who wants to wait 7-10 days to get approved. If accounts can be approved within 24 hours I think the floodgates could be opened. Another exciting post as always!

I rather the processing be a little slow than a bunch of fake or spam accounts be created. It's not like the new sign-ups have to keep answering questions, just fill out the info and wait.
We wait for everything, getting a job, getting a driver's license, buying groceries, so waiting a week to make money shouldn't be a problem.
In that week, those newbie can start thinking about what quality content they can create.
Thanks for the update Task.😎

I have like a dozen of people waiting for approval. Its kinda frustrating for them after telling them all the goodies on steemit.

I keep telling them it is worth the wait.

it's pretty easy already if you use blocktrades

Steemit is a wonderful platform for everyone, you can get different types of knowledge, insights, and useful information. People share their experiences and thoughts here and get feedback. I think more and more people are going to join this community. We should hold debates, conferences and other promotions for the growth of our community.

Steem is spreading like wildfire and I feel like when the SMT come out , then it’s going to definitely attract even more people to join

SMT? Smart Media Tokens? I'm discovering new things everyday in this space. Does it need a hard fork?

I agree @journeyoflife.SMTs are going to be a game changer.

There are some big players who are looking at this technology.

steem going moon soon 😍

amazing post....i appreciate your post.

Great post.....i like your post...
Thanks for sharing......

That would be really good for the steemit platform, more and more people joins steemit, possibly makes steemit more diverse.
But at the same time I don't want this platform to taste the date of FaceBook or Twitter where information is less and trolling is more.steemit is certainly differs from other social media platforms in information, healthy discussions and loyalty members.

I think the fact that there is money on the line means the trolling will be reduced.

Trolling isnt effective for building relationships meaning one wont get many upvotes.

If one doesnt care, then fine but most want to get some SP in their account.

So we worm up for digitalised sign up soon?

$100 Steem is just around the corner!

Yes there is this thing which is missing but i have recently figured out something like this.....i told my friends about this ,after hearing from me they really got excited and started to sign up as i told them you will have to wait 5-6 days to get the login details ...i saw their faces seriously they were like what 5-6 days ..it is alot of waiting...then after a week some of them replied to me what happened to your steemit...where are the login details....i personely met them checked in their mails there was nothing no login details ...i got shocked and told them to login with other emails maybe there are some problems or some maintanence issues...till then they never asked me about it.....such a disappointment.....

WOW! Two to four weeks for approval? When I joined less than eight months ago it was one to two days! That must show how many new people are wanting to join the platform.

And I agree.. the longer you wait, your enthusiasm can diminish. I believe people are accustomed to immediate gratification in this technology day and age... to have to wait for up to four weeks is hard to swallow.

2-4 weeks until the sign up process sees significant improvement.

Oh, I must've misread... sorry
All I could think of was WOW! that's a long time!

thank you for the clarification

That was one of the main priorities for the team during 2017. While it is obvious that the more people join STEEM the greater the value of the blockchain and apps on it.
But many people have already started to share concerns with the fact that original STEEM goal to incentivize creating of quality content is not working as good as expected at the moment. The reasons are voting bots, spam and other tricks.
I can assume that the flow of new users won't improve the quality situation. And I know that communities, SMTs are in progress at the moment and are designed to partially address the issue with good content and incentivization model.
What's your take on this? Do you feel like we need to take additional measures in addition to those that are in plan for 2018?

I think they need to roll out what they have talked about for close to a year when we can see where things stand.

Communities is going to be a big thing for the content angle since there will be smaller grouping who are going to upvote things. As people assemble around interest, we should see the quality in those areas go up. If not, I imagine the person will not get much support from those in that group.

Bots are a large reason for what you describe and they arent going anywhere. However, over time, as the masses start to join, the big accounts are going to lose power as a percentage of the whole. Hence we will see things spread out even more (actually this is already happening).

Hard Fork, SMTs, and communities and lets see where we stand.

Many of my friends would like to register for Steemit, but face the problem of long waiting for confirmation. How can I help them?

Tell them to sign up and get in line.

Hopefully we will see progress over the next month. In the meantime, sign up today because waiting a week will just put then further down the list.

They are already waiting for 6 days ...

That's great, I already noticed some aesthetic differences when trying to sign someone up. This would be a big win, this site is already fairly complex, having a slow sign up is not something people like in an age of instant gratification.

I heard about this new system. Do you know if the hard fork is required? I am so stoked about the fork and SMTs ...I wonder when that will happen!

To have it in the blockchain, I believe it will have to be agreed upon by the witnesses and forked in.

Right now, since it is through Steemit, they can alter it while developing.

I feel like waiting for the account is just part of the problem

Without understanding how to use the platform to maximize your passive income stream as a content creator you won't be motivated long enough to keep building your creative pipeline.

It seems like once the majority of the newly acquired userbase will overcome the learning curve associated with using the Steemit effectively, we will see a pivoting shift in the speed of the platform growth. That's where we would really need the automated sign up the process since the amount of freshly baked Steem millionaires is gonna produce a lot of buzz in the media.

I wrote about it in my article 'People don't really get Steemit'

We know there are many people marketing this blockchain on sites like Facebook and YouTube

Volunteered promotion from communities is good, but what we need the most is the promotion from the official @steemit who are holding the most Steem for long.

Man, this is welcome information. My wife has been trying to get an account for nearly two weeks now. I really don't want to have to give up steem to buy one and I'm not sure how safe that is anyway. Do you have thoughts on that process like from @anonsteem ?

Good news indeed! Another thing that is demoralizing newbies are the initial bandwith problems. I hope this is tackled as well, very soon. Next, the storage needed to run a steem node has to be reduced sonehow.
But then, steem is ready to skyrocket!

well we have to see how they will implement many people want to get on board but can't really do it :/

More users can only be a good thing - though it will, undoubtedly, bring in scammers and hackers too - there's only so much that lengthening the sign-up process can do about that. I think it took a day or two for Steemit to approve my account in December (just before Christmas) - although instant approval would have been nice, I wasn't overly discouraged or put off by the wait.

Several weeks would be too long though - many will give up and go elsewhere in that time, and I've seen that there are competitors for Steemit out there.

I think Steemit is perfect for people like myself, artists and would-be bloggers who like to produce content, but dislike huge amounts of marketing (yet can't help but comment on other posts - like on Facebook.) More users means more investment and more reward for everyone.

Now, to get my son (also a photographer) to sign up!
Thanks for the great article.

thnxxxx fr sharing a nic information we hope u will sharing this types of news in this community.

I'm glad they are doing something about this. It gives a bad first impression of the platform and causes people to give up before they've even started.

everything), when people decide they want something, they want it now. Signing up for steemit, then waiting , and waiting, and waiting certainly can take the wind out of their sails. Let's hope this "automation in the service" changes that enough to get more people here....keeping them is an entirely different matter though, isn't it?:)Hi @taskmaster4450! This is good news for sure. I think that in this world of instant gratification (like drive-thru
