We saw a video earlier this week where the development team introduced a new procedure to speed up the sign up process which was all being manually done. In that video, it was stated that we should see results in the next 2-4 weeks.
Yesterday, according to @penguinpablo's daily report, there were 17,795 new sign ups.
As the chart shows, we saw spikes like this before.
So this begs the question is this just another spike where those manually approving the sign ups cleared a backlog or are we starting to see the impact of the new system?
Only time will tell. If we see a drop off and another lull in the approval process, we will have to conclude just business as usual.
Something to keep an eye on.
Also, according to his numbers, we crossed the 800K mark for total users signed up. The projection for 1M by the end of April that many people made is looking pretty good.

The problem is not getting new users, its retaining and getting the existing users to use the platform!
Spot on! Just wrote a post about that and now, I see your comment.
This is what I wrote also in my comment (see below)... New users are important but much more keeping them for long term...
Exactly, how many are inactive for 1month+? we've got the stats somewhere right
How would you recommend doing this?
I'm newish here. Had a bit of a lull in activity this week because of nothing to write about. But I think one thing we could all do is spend some time in the "new" feed. Spark discussion, give folks tips, and generally introduce them to the platform. I think that would be an obvious place to start.
That's precisely what I am also thinking. Having numerous new users that all quit after 1 week will not help steemit at all.
I even think the growth could have been much bigger. If all those new users would have become active ones. And really liking steemit, they would have become ambassadors. But now.....
LOL Nice one....
The trending page and quality content do not often collide.
While new account sign-ups and total sign ups are important, daily average users may be the most important metric. We've been hovering around 60k DAUs, would like to see this number steadily increase to 100k.
Don't forget that a good deal of those 60K DAU's are recent sign ups and automated accounts, aka bots.
The stat that really matters is the DAU's that are humans and signed up 30 days ago.
But in either case, your comment is definitely in the right direction.
This is good news! Looking forward to crossing the million mark soon! Thanks for the update!
Great!!
Where can i find this useful info?? I would love to keep track about this things... i hopw they found the way to incorporate new users fasters... lot of my audience have waited for 2-3 weeks to get an account...
Anyways, thanks for sharing the entushiam!!
D.
I don't know where to find the graph presenting the daily user growth, but sites such as steemworld.org show you a live total acct #
Awesome, thanks man!

Mo' Money Mo' Problems
Good news! For some people it took weeks to receive the confirmation mail.
Very soon we will have about 1000K users :)
From my personal experience... It took 10 days to get my approval email :( so I would suspect a backlog... But the numbers sure are promising! :)
This manual sign up is really really giving a tough time to new members. I have a friend who we register together since 12 January and have not been approved till now. Last two weeks I called him to open a new account and still the same think. So early this week when I had a little sp delegation, I decided to help him speed up things via steeminvite, but Steeminvite went down before we could finish the process. I don't know exactly what to do again.
That is tough honey... and I thought that my 10 day wait for approval was bad. Best of luck to you and your friend!
谢谢。That's Chinese for thank you.
<3 I Love it!!! <3
This manual signing up is really making a strong wave on the number of new users.i hear @surpassinggoogle talks about manual signing weeks ago but i did not imagine it as innovation that will really going to make change but the evidence of the wonderful works of manual signing is becoming clearly in the development of this ecosystem.i think ,this project should be supported for us to see its full potential.
I think that 1 million mark will have some symbolic meaning, but i'm looking forward to a higher retention rate where our daily active user rate continues to go up. We need to do a better job retaining new users than we've seen in the past. This easier on board is just the first step, but a step in the right direction nonetheless
I agree the daily active user is more important.
Retention rate has to be tied to the sign up process....
People waiting a week or 10 days cannot be good for the retention rate and getting people involved.
Right, it’s gotta be closer to a few minutes signup before we see the big numbers
Always good to have more users signing up, I wonder what our retnetion rate is, like how many leave after joining?
I wonder how many dont even show up after signing up and having to wait a week to 10 days.
That is my big issue...I think our retention will be better once the sign up process is streamlined...
ya, no doubt, I've also gotten people to join who said they would come back later because it was too much to take in haha, steep learning curve atm
It is a very steep learning curve...that is true.
That is why I feel D.Tube and Zappl have an easier time to convert people onto this blockchain. Their learning curves are a lot lower.
Agreed, but even then, learning about steemit is always helpful to understand the rewards system. Dtube and zappl are great additions, they are my favorite of the apps, it might be useful for newcomers to use busy.org too
Well a lot of people sign up to check what it's all about, post something with more chance than not that it passes by unnoticed and give up after some time.
There's also a fact that not everyone is a great story teller, some people can post loads of bogus TA and deserve too much or make a bot votebuy scheme but most of the time ordinary users tend to get things said and done after a while and a writer's block occurs.
Curating the avalanche on posts that are mildly interesting to a user isn't that rewarding and can only get people being occupied that much either.
So other apps (even games) running on steem can/could be a blessing for retainment.
I have started wonder if there are any statistics how many fake accounts there are. On my other channel atleast one guy managed to milk few upvotes from me by using 2-3 accounts. I also just got two meaningful looking comments there that happened to come from same person as I was able to find that one of the account had send 7 sbd to the other. I also found out in the process, that whoever run that must have atleas 3-4 different accounts.
I am not sure there is a way to track that but it would be an interesting stat to know....
I signed up 9 days ago, was approved 2 days ago and able to sign in finally. Glad to be here, it seems some people had been waiting weeks.
Welcome dirtdog. We are glad you finally made it here.
I will start off by telling you that you are an early adopter. In your journey on here, do not think for a moment you are too late or missed the boat. We are still in the very early stages. There are still under 10K people who are at minnow or above (500 SP).
That is how early a stage we are still at.
This comment is for the users who are trying to make an income on Steemit and happy about this news.
Are you happy because the reward pool will be divided among more users and therefore your rewards will potentially be diminishing due to the Steem market cap not growing at the same rate?
I don't think that's a problem as long as we all support quality content and not folks that don't contribute.
Oh damn! That's a big jump, I remember looking at 780 yesterday or the day before. I think 1M by the end of April is entirely reasonable. Today marks two months for me and I'm #556500
This is definitely worth an upvote and resteem, especially if the spike is due to the automated sign-ups and not because everyone was back from vacation. 😂 I guess this next week will determine what the reason was. I'll be keeping an eye out for your post, updating the results. Good job Task. 😎
Thanks @wonderwop. I do appreciate it.
I will keep everyone updated as the information comes out.
Let us all hope it is the start of a trend.
Almost 18K new people a day, that's a lot of people.
And even better is the fact that more and more people want to Power Up, last statistics showed that the liquidity of steem dropped, which mean people want to have influence in this amazing platform.
I saw a lot of "Introducing Yourself" posts in a new section. I can't help it and add some of them. Upvoted!
Great news! I noticed some transaction speed issues today. I wonder if it was DDOS or more users?!?
I definitely noticed this too this morning! Now is the first time I have been able to do anything, I was wondering if it was just me!
Even it is a good new, I always think that is much more important to keep people active in the platform...actually, I think most of the people I am following are inactive accounts...we should fix this problem and think why people leaves from Steemit...
Why do they come in the first place?
That's good. Happy to know that people are joining steemit at a fast rate. Great post. Keep more coming.
highly innovative articles
On the march to 1 million!! Is there a chart that has the active users? I’m curious what percentage of new users are active vs older users.
I was just about to ask this :) New users (like myself) are great! But how many are staying active?
ohh great news....
its impressive...
Wonder if that boost was due to the recent Bloomberg article. Great data, thank you for sharing!
Hmmm, i have a friend singing up three days ago and still pending approval. Is it really taking effect?
It's not a matter of quantity!!
Quality is way important than quantity!
Why I say this is because I think that most of the new Steemians are basically rendering inactive quickly after trying out Steemit and I think this is because of lack of motivation and support! One thing Facebook have an advantage over Steemit is the social circle! There are people who are familiar with the person who will help him grow. But here at Steemit most of them are busy trying to make money and the new users are left off!
This system has to change! Steemit should really do something about it. Even if we hit a million, that number would be nothing without a daily active userbase here!
Manna is awesome! I have some.
