People seem to love to wrap themselves up in fear and negativity.
I read an article yesterday calling for @ned to step in because everything is being ruined. While I will admit that, in my opinion, much of what is taking place is extremely distasteful, Steem is far from being ruined.
In fact, delving into what is going on makes one conclude that Steem is kicking ass. There is a reason it is the top blockchain right now when one uses reasonable analytics.
If Steem is being ruined, how come it is still processing over 1.6M transactions per day? That is almost 1M more than the closest competitor according to bloctivity.info.
We received word last week, via a video that was also on Dlive, that the sign up process is being tended to and we should see measurable results in 2-4 weeks. The last two days saw 17K and 8.5K signups respectively. Certainly, we are not sure if that was from a change in the sign up process or just a clearing out of the backlog, but it is a step in the right direction.
Also, according to @penguinpablo's numbers, we crossed 800K users total. The 1M milestone is just around the corner.
I know some people have an issue with Alexa rankings since they tend not to tell the entire story. Nevertheless, they do show trends so we will use them from that perspective.
Steemit.com is now a top 1000 site in the world.
D.Tube is totally on fire. Just a few weeks ago, the U.S. ranking was in the 70K range with the world ranking over 100K.
Now look at it....
For the fourth straight month the trajectory on the chart is heavily upward. YouTube going on their censorship rampage is paying dividends for D.Tube.
Another site that is shooting up the charts is Dmania. Memes are very popular it seems.
While the overall numbers might not be that impressive, look again at the trajectory. It is almost straight up.
But wait, there is more.....
You ever use Dsound? Evidently someone is....
Finally there is Zappl...potentially a twitter killer...
There are 5 applications posts, one (Steemit) is in the top 1K while the other 4 are showing strong upward trends. These same four, according to Alexa, are still in their first 6 months. What is amazing is 3 of them could be top 100K sites in the U.S. by the end of the month if the pace continues. For a blockchain that is less than two years old, I think that is a terrific accomplishment.
All this looks pretty positive to me.
We also got an update from the developers about the SMT protocol. In that update it was stated that we are not too far away from seeing a testnet established. That is really good news. This means that SMTs, at least at the testing stage, are just around the corner. To me, this is the STEEM holy grail. It is what will separate STEEM from most other blockchains.
Thus, my only conclusion is STEEM is kicking ass. Even the developers are communicating more which is a grand achievement.
Sure we could dwell upon the negative and how certain people appear intent on blowing up STEEM. The bottom line is STEEM is too powerful for any one group to destroy. There are 60K daily active users on here, most of whom are not involved in what is taking place. There are also a ton of developers and heavy hitters who are programming amazing things that we will see end up on this blockchain in the next 4-6 months.
Step back and look at the forest instead of the trees. Everything is moving forward.
Now if the price of cryptocurrency would only move up...well that is another story. π
If you found this article informative, please give it an upvote and rehive.
Dtube and Dlive will pose a serious threat to Youtube in the coming years, mark my words! Btw, I just found out about Dsound, LOL!
Anyone who isn't buying the Steem dip will be buying themselves a ticket to the FOMO-Train when the next rally starts!
New sign ups are one thing and retention is another thing.. these days every whales own 50 bot accounts.. And needless to say about the inequality in Steem distribution makes it very hard to retain new users.. Those who joined in 2016 got thousands of SP from one line comments.. if you know what I mean
yeah there is a demand for steem product for sure follow me i always give to my followers thanks i will follow you
So you upvote your comment 100% and upvote the article 7%? Ha!
i will upvote your comment and the article.. neither at 100 percent but I will struggle with my inner turmoil and see if I can manage not to upvote my own comment for the 5000th odd time in a row.
Well played @tarazkp! :D
Some days I really wish I could morph into @grouchyKat for a few seconds, bwhahaha...
The transaction volume is definitely amazing, especially given the fact that the blockchain doesnΒ΄t even reach 0.2% of itΒ΄s full capacity while processing more than a million transfers each day.
Though we got to admit as well that a big bunch of these transactions are most likely based on bid bots and the memos of similar services that get send automatically. It doesnΒ΄t make the number any less impressive but IMO diminishes the sensation about the actual usage at least a little bit.
Nevertheless, steem will definitely succeed in the longrun :)
It's so easy to look at Steem and think: "OMG what is this trainwreck?"
This is because our blockchain is more transparent than every other blockchain. Everyone can see where the rewards are going. If the average person could do this on other chains there would be outrage there as well.
I for one believe that Steem's transparency is exactly what's going to make it evolve faster and better than other chains. The communities of other chains don't see the problem while here we are staring it straight in the face. Take a deep breath and be patient.
very well said! I agree wholeheartedly.
I think what will make Steem grow is its environment. Not just steemit itself, but sites likes busy, esteem, dmania, decentmemes, dtube, dsound, dlive and so much more! This all gives visibility to an awesome blockchain!
Here's the growth on decentmemes
Thanks for that @julienbh.
I was not aware of that one....another application seeing incredible growth.
Facebook became Facebook because of the huge number of active daily users it was able to engage, if Steemit and other Steem apps are able to bring in more and more users, there is every reason why Steem will be as grand a success as FB or even bigger...
Well, as of today, there is no Facebook equivalent on the STEEM blockchain. Maybe Appics will become one or one of the SMT apps coming next week. Steemit is not a social media platform, but a blogging platform, which is a huge difference in my opinion.
I agree. I was not talking about any specific use case but the number of active users. A number of social media platforms like Zappl, Dtube, Steepshot are being built on top of Steem and something akin to FB may as well come up. When and how that happens remain to be seen but with SMT being rolled out in a few months and if it really can help tokenize internet content as promised, many popular websites and blogs may start using them.
We need a Steembook for short-form posts and photos.
theres zappl and steepshot
Neither of them are Facebook alternatives. Zappl is a twitter alternative and steepshot the steem-based Instagram.
yes I thought you meant twitter (short form text) and photos (insta), lolz
Your on task, @taskmaster4450 there always seems to be a delay in our minds when it comes to exponential growth, And I guess thats how we see Steemit, like any ecosystem that is constantly growing needs resitance patterns so to weed out bigger potential problems in the future for even better growth by market forces and the overall social motivation ( Selfish Gene) memes i.e Richard Dawkins) So those that play that part for the platform are the naysayers, haters, scammers etc, show me that the Steemit ecosystem is progressing like a growing virtual organism, overcoming resistances from the various free radicals that are found in any ecosystem which is bolstered by app innovation etc that are a metaphor for a healthy immune system . I have been emailing folks that I subscribed to on YouTube about Steemit and dtube and have heard some are going to make the jump and one has almost 200k. I encourage other steemians to do the same. You are right to be happy about what you shared about steemits sucess, because your right.
So why is the STEEM price so low?
If I had to guess, it is a lack of marketing and the fact that it isnt well known.
But price action tends not to mirror what is taking place.
Some of the top ten coins arent even out yet they are priced up there...
So markets will be markets.
All good signs and you are right the future looks bright!
I wonder if these new singups will cause that more vests will go to the minnow and to see that the system still will be working.
People signing up is great, but is important for the community that they stay aboard! If 80% of the new signups will become hibernated accounts the profit of the bigger number of signup is wasted.
According to the stats we are wth 800k but only 60k of active users. Should we worry about this?
You always find the positives. I need to pop by more often!
What would be classed as a transaction? Would it be anything included on steemit like claiming rewards, would it be moving SBD to steem, or only when it's moved from the steem blockchain?
No a transaction can stay on the blockchain.
It is any transfer of money from one account to another while happens each time someone gets paid.
I love waking up to great news Task. You just made my Monday fabulous. This just reenforces that Facebook and uLube believe they are untouchable and can change policies and expect users to follow them. Screw that, users are leaving them and coming to our blockchain. "Come on down" we have plenty of room for new users. Thanks Task. π
The only thing I'm concerned about is vote bots and the behavior of a few powerful accounts. But It's still really early and I expect things to work themselves out as we move along the timeline.
Loving this, haha.
Thanks again, my friend...
Price MUST go up as more users get involved, i just wonder how whales interact with the flow of new capital inside and their possibilty to distribute their tokens, basiclly, to themselves....
Anyway, Steem price has risen A LOT in the last months... I just hope it can continue in order to make it really profitable for new buisness and content creators.
Cheers!!
D.
Fantastic news and I stopped following the negative things on Steemit to concentrate on the positive. My son @d-pend has been posting a lot in Dsound! Lots of Steemians loving what's going on in Dsound! Why waste your time on the negative, I agree!
Steem On Everybody!!
I had a friend explain why higher Crypto prices would be a good thing. He basically said it would help growth because the main thing most people are interested in would be growing. I do think the SMTs are important for the blockchain itself, but higher prices would be good for marketing.
Over 8ook members? That is astounding!
And the news about Dtube being on fire is another great news moment. I did two short dtube videos in the last two weeks; just to experiment; I am planning on making more, and longer ones, in the future once the gardening season is here.
I just wish you werenβt such a non-stop pessimist. The glass is half full.
We are doing very well I must say, and when SMT are released at least on a test fase we will see a big jump on everything in this platform and all the others around it.
Saying this, I think everybody should buy STEEM now or never, because after we get "married" there is no return, expect to see STEEM very close to $10 soon, months I would say.
I've been traveling the past week and I have no idea what the fuss is all about. How are people trying to destroy steemit?
I wanted to write that steemit is doing just fine but that would have been an understatement, especially with having all the data from your post in mind. There will always be "bad guys" but we humans tend to focus more on them just because they are louder. You said it nicely, we have to see the forest, not the trees.
It will, you know it will ;)
Thanks for all the info you provided.
I'm not here to say that Steem is going down or anything like that, but I think people are making too much of the transaction count.
Most block chains are designed to process financial transactions, either exclusively or in vast majority. So it isn't really a like for like comparison. Given the vast number of different operations that can make up a transaction in steem, I would expect it to have a very high transaction count.
That's helpful insight. It seems, like you said, a lot of articles have been focusing on the negatives, but you showed there are some really big things to be encouraged about. I still don't understand why Youtube would just be giving away their customers, but apparently keeping niche advertisers/stakeholders happy is more important than revenue.
Yes, it's pumping along. We only crossed the 1M transactions per day a bit back. Less than 90 days ago, if I recall. It also goes to show you that the others are behind on the pure transactional model. Most of those transactions are just buys/sells on the other coins. Steem has a crazy year coming up - hold on!
Wonderful post with hard facts at a wonderful time. I was having a discussion on the other day with a friend working on a project with me for Steem and he seemed disappointed to see what's happening around. Your post almost had our conversation from that day when we chatted and exactly quoted these words of looking at the forest not the trees :D ... Reading it felt as if I am living those moments again and you took those words out of our mouth but topping them with the hard data facts is calling you nailed it. May be whatever other thing is happening is a little distraction but in future, one must focus on entire forest and keep doing the good for the community. I am positive to make a change with my project in coming few months too without getting distracted and disappointed. Thank you again for sharing these stats.
I don't know why people are so worried about Steemit, everything is on track. More and more people are coming and the transactions are increasing over time.
People want immediate results they ignore the long run.
Lolz please I would love you to invite that person who said that steem is getting ruied to come see this post. This is so heartwarming .
Why would anyone ever say that?look at all these growth. Look at all these positive stats...Steemit is just starting . We will take over the world real soon.
I'm in one of those teams with @roscoeh, building programs to put on the blockchain. We're so very excited to a part of the Steem platform. It's early and exciting days! We want to work on and create great programs that everyone in the Steem family can join and use to improve their experiences here.
I'm also waiting for the price to go up :P. I'm kicking myself every day for not posting when I signed up back in 2016. I'm still learning a lot about crypto and the blockchain, your posts are quite informative. I can see with the last slump in the price and slow gains that some people might be thinking of jumping ship, they are not getting the big money that they had in mind when they signed up.
It's still so early for steem. Think where it could be in another 5 years. These current abuses and problems will barely be a blip on the timeline.
There are great times to come! We have to power up what we can as longs as the price of STEEM is so low.
Very encouraging post. I love hearing all the numbers. I think there will always be things to improve but what is important is that steem is moving forward and gaining momentum. The future is looking very bright indeed
Sometimes people don't like growth or change and they say it has been ruined. It is only fear of change!
The future is bright as long as certain problems can be addressed. Whale Power/Trending/Search/Vote Bots all need to see changes or improvements.
People are coming, and after registration process starts to be automatic there will be skyrocket boom in new users. A few tweaks in a system could be a positive thing.
Thanks for giving the chance to enjoy this beautiful news!!
yes, there is a demand for steem product for sure follow me i always give to my followers thanks.
It's nice to see a bit of positivity!
Yes, very good arguments you have about the developments. very cool development and is developing rapidly. Is there some more @bescouted
What is going on at the moment? I am out of the loop, can someone explain? Or is this the drama between bernie sanders and haejin?
I like your photo that cat is cute π» and you might know more about crypto than me. Then again I'm just a cat. Meow Rrrrrrrrrr....
Figures alone do not tell all the story.
We must be careful not to fall prey to just figures.
What are the forces driving the figures? What messages are the figures conveying?
Take Bitcoin for example, the figures were fine. Beyond fine in fact. And then, the storms. It wasn't as if the storms suddenly came. The handwriting was on the wall all along.
Steemit must make necessary adjustments to avoid the same pitfalls. Steemit is beginning to emerge as a global player, it cannot be let to speculators, moneybags whose only interest is to rip the system apart to their own benefits.
The onus is on us.
There is just a little thing I don't like about Dtube, they take 25%.of author rewards and I couldn't find any.info on their site about it. So people ignores that fact. And that is why I still "prefer" youtube. I know Dtube needs to pay hosting and stuff, my concern is about the transparency. And certainly I think 25% is a lot.
