I got you with the cat picture, didn't I? It took a while to find, so I'm glad.

Steem Rewards

"What do you mean, Steem Rewards for authors? Haven't we always gotten those?"

Short answer

Not as long as I've been here.

Long answer

For as long as I've been on Steemit, the rewards for posting have always been either 100% SP OR 50% SP/ 50% SBD.

If you chose the 100% SP option, you would accumulate vested Steem which would take 13 weeks to power down. This option was attractive because when SBD was worth less than $1, SP allowed you to power up your account faster and gain more value.

With the SBD peg broken (SBD worth more than $1), it has made more sense to choose 50/50 on your payout option because you could earn more value by doing so. If you still wanted SP, you could just convert it to Steem using the internal market... and then power up.

Current Situation

One of the first things I do when I log on to Steemit is check my replies... then claim my rewards. Today I noticed something different.

Do you see it on the left end of "Your current rewards"? It says that I have 0.004 STEEM to claim! While that's not much, it's not nothing. (Sorry about the double negative, but as the field never existed until now, it's surprising!)

I hadn't heard about a proposed change, but this could change the payout structure for posting. I don't have information yet on how much Steem we can expect per post, but it's exciting there's another stream of revenue... and this one is liquid.

0.001 Steem per comment at this point. Only 1,000 comment to get a Steem!

Consequences

I apologize for using that taboo word: consequences. But there will be some. Depending on how the Steem payout is calculated, there could be a number of consequences. Most all of them can put downward pressure on pricing.

- If Steem reward is added

If a Steem reward is given in addition to the normal rewards, then expect it to put downward pressure on Steem as there will be more in supply. There could be downward pressure on SBD price as well as there will be more rewards in circulation, causing inflation.

- If SBD is reduced

Expect higher price pressure on SBD and lower price pressure on Steem as there will be a smaller supply of SBD and larger supply of Steem.

- If SP is reduced

There could be downward pressure on Steem price as well as there will be more liquid rewards in circulation, causing inflation. Little to no impact on SBD price.

tl;dr Steemit added Steem rewards to author rewards.

hey fellow story-mentor friend .. I likey what I am reading..
upvote and resteem

Howdy! I like it too. I haven't figured out what the payout percentage is, but I like where this is heading... unless spammers are able to get more for their comment, but if it's still based on how much the payout of the comment is, then I think we're ok.

I believe the end-game is 50% SP - 25% STEEM - 25% SBD. Don't know the current percentages, but we'll see :-)

I had heard mention of that, but I hadn't seen it go into effect. I'm assuming that we'll find out soon. It will definitely add a wrinkle into the profitability calculation. :)

Haha, yes. Later I read it could all be reversed again, it all depends on the SBD prices going up or down. It's a complex game and I'll try not to get in it too deep in order to keep my Steemit experience fun :P

Thanks for the update. I haven't seen anything on it yet. If you find the article again, could you link it here?

I like knowing how things work. It shouldn't detract from my user experience. :)

I noticed the difference in rewards too.. I've been waiting to see what it's about.. I never gave any consideration to it affecting the other prices tho..

From what I've come to understand it's because the proportion of SBD to Steem went over 2%, so they started printing more more Steem to lower the ratio.

Hi its been a long while.
I am yet to notice those rewards on my own payout.
Just watching out for better things to come but if the activities of whales and bots that give comments. That reward will also be greatly abused as well.
I am just looking at the better side of steem.

Yeah, always glad to have you stop in. No pressure though. I know there are a lot of things clamoring for attention here.

Good for you to look on the bright side! There will always be negatives, but you'll do well looking at the positives (just keep the potential negatives in the back of your mind if you're considering making an investment). ;)

Thanks. I wish i can make an investment but currently there is no capital to do that

I hear you there. Things could be better. They could also be worse, so I'm remembering to be thankful for what I have.

I am very grateful and happy for all i have and some goodies that came my way. Read this

That's awesome! Very nice of her. I hope it helps. I know the price of Steem is down, so it's putting pressure on anyone who sells it for income. She's a great friend. :)

Yea. So happy i met her

I clicked on a link for a contest on @newberiesteemday

That isn't a valid account.

Sounds like fun to have some liquid steem.

I believe that steem is only worth something if we use it. Those of us who only power up don’t use Steem to its full ability.

I’ve made up my mind to start spending some of my rewards, and will be actively looking for shops and gigs to spend it in on.
