RE: Walking Advertisement | Accounts We Should Be Supporting On STEEM

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

Ever since the SBD pump and Haejin (aka Rancho) there has been even less support for good people and projects than ever. The mindset has been a cross between getting as much as you can from the inflated SBD and try to get whatever is left over from Haejin.

Add in the fact many feel unsupported and voiceless amplifies the need to "take care of yourself" mentality.

I have talked to many curation projects and have run one myself for over a year and there is a lot of frustration. There is very little support and even less "giving a shit" about finding, supporting, nurturing what good content we do have in this sea of low effort content.

On the other hand, as little support there is for these projects there is an equal and opposite force of entitlement that everyone feels they are entitled to massive support and endless upvotes for just sneezing. Then you see low to no effort content publishers getting massive support because they are in the good ol' boys club.

When every action on Steem has a financial result, there will always be a lot of both. I blame this on the top two reasons but also the fact that curation is broken at its core. If you curate a post for $1 you will get somewhere between $0.10-0.25 for curation (typically). Delegate to a bid bot and you get $0.50-$0.75, and self-voting you get $0.75-$1. I don't care how altruistic you are, it is difficult to get the masses to opt for curation when the gap is that massive.

Then you have those who have been full altruistic and have become bitter due to seeing that they are the exception and everyone else has done far better than they did.

Yes the entitlement around this place is pretty comical.. and the smaller accounts who are yelling the loudest with absolutely no idea what they are even talking about.. it’s a bit frustrating.

I agree, somewhere along the way curation became unimportant and it is is very frustrating as a curator myself.. seeing projects like @curie go almost completely unsupported when they are non profit and an extremely inclusive curation initiative...while the circle jerks get a ton of support. It is definitely broken.

I also understand as an investor that it makes absolutely no sense to invest in curation when the returns are so much lower than using bots or self voting.. there needs to be a change. How? I don’t know, I really don’t. I don’t expect people to give their money away for free.. I do hope that they could see how investing in the content creators is beneficial long term.. but hey, it’s their stake and they can do what they want right? 😉

But you and I both know that there are still people who care around here. People who see the value in supporting those amazing content creators even if that means a smaller return, because they see the value in the long term effect of doing so. It’s the big thinkers, the ones that can see beyond the immediate return.. beyond the one vote, to see the possibilities, to see what this place is capable of... those are the game changers 🙂

Sure we have the circle jerks, those who are taking this place for all it’s worth.. but let’s not sell the rest of us short.. we are capable of changing things.. we just have to be brave (or stupid) enough to do so. There are enough of us here to help steer this place in the right direction.

I mean, we got the popcorn bot back didn’t we? Don’t underestimate the power of a determined woman 😉... join the force Marky.. we have waffles here...

I'll get the popcorn if you don't mind ;-)I am supergrateful of Justine's mention but the reason I'm here is because I'm at this moment deeply engaged with my friends (that includes her). I've got used to the people, that includes you and your random pancakes and firefly memes... of course It's nice to be rewarded, I really try my best with the time I have and though I've been a bit less active that was before I've been in trips and doing a couple of performances. I can understand the numbers Mark I truely do, still grateful to everyone who has supported me just for the sake of doing it. That includes |@drakos (almost since the beginning and probably the most consistent of my supporters) and now @ngc @fulltimegeek and others like @gtg and @anomadsoul. Sometimes and out of the blue they stop by... and I really don't know what to say but thanks but it encourages me to keep sharing. It's not unnoticed and I'm not ungrateful. My account is small so for me curating others has the same kind of "reward" just like Justine did just by mentioning... really encouraged.

And your attitude alone, without any outside following considered.. makes you one of my favorite people. Your are stunningly talented, that’s so apparent, but you also are committed to this place and take the time to try to make it a bit better for the others around you each and everyday. You are a top content creator in my book and somehow have found the way to balance that, while engaging and helping to uplift others.. not many do that.. it doesn’t go unnoticed my friend ❤️

I was blushing all through your comment... There are many here that have so much talent and many that are committed to help... still I try my best, almost as in every aspect of my life, here and elsewhere. You're very sweet and encouraging, thanks so much. :) Blush and hides!
