The Steem Worker Proposal Fund & My Two Cents

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

I am pro the worker proposal system.

The way I think it should be done is through donations. First of all, @Ned has already mentioned Steemit inc would be willing to donate a lot of Steem, in the millions potentially. While this isn't a guarantee, if this were to happen it would be a great test run. There is no need to go messing with the inflation numbers or tweaking author rewards when we have no idea how this fund will even work. My thoughts are if Steemit is willing to donate a considerable amount, (millions of Steem) - This would be enough to see if this worker proposal system is a good idea or not.
Also, make it a fund account that is easy to donate to. When creating a post have an option to donate x amount of the rewards to the Steem fund account to help support the blockchain. Make it public how much people donate. Give them badges for donating. Most people, especially in the public eye would feel uncomfortable not at least donating a tiny amount. If most Steemians do this, donating large and small, this would be a great runway for worker proposals without any added inflation. There are several ways we can tighten things when it comes to funding this idea. For instance, when people decline payouts, instead of burning the rewards, they can go to the worker proposal fund. I am sure there are other ways we can squeeze all the leaking value that goes to waste and recycle it into the worker fund.
Now in the world where the worker proposal funds are drained so fast, and so much work is being done, & it turns Steem into Dubai and it is apparent further funding of worker proposals is a great idea, then we can think about tweaking inflation.

This is perfect proposal.
Rewarding steemians with badges will indicate their donation amount. I agree with you that the declined payout fund should also be gone in this system.

While I like your idea, I think that a change to the rewards pool without altering inflation is the way to go. Like Dash, if a portion of every mined block is provided to the effort, it provides more long term sustainability for the program instead of depending on the volatility of donations and the sorts. However, the thought of crowdfunding is a great one as it adds to the community focus of building together. The importance is that something happens with this at the very least.

This may be a better solution without regard to implementation, but using donated steem to begin is way more possible politically because it doesn't even require a change in the code, and no forks in site.

Author rewards are already a part of our system, so its using what we have.

@theycallmedan you are right, something must change! Steemit has a big potential but cant using his potential #MakeSteemitGreatAgain

Donations will be a better idea to support steemit projects.

I am sure there are other ways we can squeeze all the leaking value that goes to waste and recycle it into the worker fund.

Yeah! We need to find the ways and use them.
Thanks for sharing

Steemit to donate millions of steems will be a very big plus. Moreso, steemians can also support through donations as you have rightly stated. Donations should be made visible and some rewards should be given to all the donators, could be the badges as you suggested.

I believe the rewards will push others to donate even more.

Thanks for sharing @theycallmedan

Great idea, just few days ago, I was just musing within hat am not very informed about what happens when users deny payout rewards. Chanelling such rewards to worker proposals would be great.

Although STeemit.com does not have this feature, but I know other dapps have provision for setting benefactor rewards for a particular account. This is a decentralized system, as such, [people should have their liberty as to what they should do.

On your suggestion for badges, there could be some advanced future usage for such badges to encourage users to donate more. Such usage may be post exposure or points convert-able to STEEM.

In all, your idea is amazing @theycallmedan

Many of the foundations like python foundation is Managed by foundations like what we are discussing.

Steem Blockchain is more or less like kubernetes handed over to a foundation by google. There are scenarios like open office handed over to apache foundation by Sun and google wave handed over to apache foundation by google etc. The OpenOffice and wave scenario didn’t really do good for the products and they were more like sunsetting the products. OpenOffice is forked into libreoffice and managed by the community. There difference here seems to be that there is only one entity donating and unlike other software products the chain represents money. We need to get this right and have a better model than bitshares and the existing other product models. Stellar foundation is doing good IMHO and that’s something I am trying to understand more about. Steem Blockchain has a unique scenario and understanding and implementing better models will be the way to go.

Sounds like a great idea

I strongly agree with most of your ideas, except that of preventing declined payouts from being burned. @burnpost deliberately burns payouts for a reason, and so do many declined payout posters. Sending Steem to @null decreases inflation, which is good for investors.

An option to send declined payouts to @steemalliance would be great. I already use the benefactor function of Steempeak to provide 25% of my post rewards to several people that I reckon worthy of it, and am confident that all of them would be happy were I to send that to @steemalliance instead.

Thanks!

I like the way you think Dan!
... the "donate x amount of the rewards to the Steem fund" idea is good - but is that not like the existing Promote option? Tho getting a badge and support for using Promote would be good as I feel with Promote button is currently unclear if it is worth using! making Promote a clear winning option would be excellent for the platform and take some money back from the vote bots perhaps!

Upvoted and resteemed :D

Thanks for sharing the details..

I think it's a great idea, hopefully, all users of this community, we can collaborate even with small amounts, and those with great power, l and economic power, can help more.

It seems to me a very good idea, the fact that the payment is used, of those who reject it, can be used as a fund for this initiative, instead of disappearing, and burning.

This post has been included in the latest edition of SoS Daily News - a digest of all you need to know about the State of Steem.

The perfect way to start my morning, I think @ned started this year in the worse of ways possible by pulling off a few centralized moves, I think he needs ideas fast to rectify this platform, I think the option to donate to project steem would be really amazing so that all these powering down to pay staffs may be reduced.

Brilliant idea!I think this worker proposal system will be more effective through donation and rewarding steemains with badges.. this is also great idea to make donation public whether it is big or small.

Anything that will help the overall health of our Blockchain is a good thing. Great idea Dan :)

I am really happy to read about this proposal and will really want to see it... turning into reality soon.

Great ideas, Dan.

I agree that the proposed system would ideally be funded by Donation rather than tweaking inflation, especially at first.

It would also be great if the user could opt to send Declined Payouts to the funding account rather than being burned. Or rather than declining the entire payout, the user could specify the % of Rewards donated, like you also mention. To take that idea further, perhaps in the future, one could choose to allocate a percentage of Earned Rewards to a cause/donation of their choice, a fellow Steemian, a savings account that earns interest, etc).

Looking forward to seeing how the #WorkerProposalSystem progresses…

Thanks, @theycallmedan!!!

Such a great idea I m totally agree with you this is great way to support blockchain without doing anything

That's most powerful and best proposal for promote steem blockchain. Give to the badge to donations, improve to increase their fund. We need to change something for bring steem terrific place.

How would this be much different than using a donations or crowdfunding platform? People can do the same things if we were to use something like Fundition and invest a bit in enhancing it, no?

When creating a post have an option to donate x amount of the rewards to the Steem fund account to help support the blockchain. Make it public how much people donate. Give them badges for donating. Most people, especially in the public eye would feel uncomfortable not at least donating a tiny amount.

This would make all the difference in the world and raise a lot of money. Everyone is always claiming they want to help, this would be something every single steemian could do to help. And just keeping it real, the social pressure would be enough to get most people to contribute something.

inflation for a new concept is a no go...let the concept play out on a defined , accountable runway...

Concur !!

This sounds better than directing a portion of the existing inflation to them in the detriment of other pools, or worse, creating additional inflation. Public donations have a dynamic of their own, and I even think the amounts we will see will be greater than if a fixed portion of the inflation will be allocated to the worker proposals.
