Hi I am quite new to Steem. I am reading the whitepaper right now, but I am curious. What are the bad behaviors you're noticing that is causing Steem to die?

Omg literally all the behaviors. The witnesses spam to get upvotes and do not use the SP rewarded to up vote anyone, The users delegate SP to upvote bots because they are lazy and this causes people to buy the upvotes for themselves and upvote themselves which amplifies the "N-Person Prisoner’s Dilemma whereby each individual voter has the incentive to vote for themselves at the expense of the larger community goal." Literally everything, everyone is doing is the opposite of what the whitepaper says. lol Makes me think of Jumanji
I see.... Or rather, I don't see because I'm too new to understand what you're saying and I'm not sure how the system works yet.
But it's apparent that what you're saying at least is that people are gaming the system to their advantage... which is understandable, because people respond to economic incentives. Whether it be monetary incentives or status to boost their ego, that is how people respond. It sounds like this system was not structured properly from the root. Even if people start playing by the rules which attract more people, what's to say that the new people attracted won't game the system either? And if Steem eventually blows up and becomes bigger than Reddit, what's to say that some larger whales won't come in to manipulate the system to their advantage making this a cess pool breeding the same behavior?
Sounds like a structural problem to me which needs to be fixed at the root. I don't mean to sound like an asshole honestly, but shouting from the rooftops to read the whitepaper will do nothing. Nobody wants to read the whitepaper. Kinda like how the overwhelming majority of people don't read the terms of service when they join any social network. People will gel according to how the site is structured and respond to incentives, which is why in the past you used to see bloggers tag their pages with every imaginable word in the world - basically making the bottom of blog pages look like a hodgepodge of a bunch of random words to try and get extra hits. Eventually Google and other such websites fixed this problem with their algorithms, thereby influencing behavior and giving each subsequent tag less weight. The same needs to be done. But the problem with a decentralized network is that it is more difficult to structure, which is why I imagine bots are created to try and influence certain kinds of behavior, e.g. plagiarism, duplicate identity, etc.
You could say that I'm not even bringing the awareness either and I'm no better because I have done jack, and I'd have to agree. I don't have the knowledge or experience at my disposal to try and fix this, but I am learning coding and blockchain.
I guess the TLDR is I think these things take time. People are still trying to figure this stuff out. Search engine results in the mid 90's and webpage aesthetics, and online apps (if you can even call it that) such as forums, blogs like MySpace, etc were horrendous. I think it would be better use of your time to learn coding or coming up with a solution like building fire hydrants rather than yell fire every time you see one.
Again, not being an asshole here, just trying to spread practical awareness.
You definitely are not being an asshole. I appreciate the constructive conversation. Thank you. I agree, I am not just going to scream fire, I am working on putting it out myself.
It sure seems like that was how the network was designed. Those with SBD or Steem Power (not quite sure what's the difference yet) get more power. If you have a lot of power and you come up with a solution, I don't see why you wouldn't get rewarded in the process The mere fact that you hold Steem and fix the problem which causes more people to participate will lead to higher demand, thus pushing the price of your assets higher.
Yeah i have always thought about such behaviors the equilibrium will find itself :) low price and more distribution so people can buy steem
not if people do not learn
I liked that @rt-international joined the crowd here, i hope they will bring more people to the system and new news companies will follow as well
Interesting. Thank you for sharing this.
