So I bought my first steem dollars yesterday, I bought the grand total of 12.100 SBD using block trades. It's not much but it's a start in something I believe is going to be huge.
Now, this is the first time I've ever bought any type of crypto and will be hopefully something I can do more of in the coming months, but I thought I'd share a few reasons I decided Steem was special enough to be my first. Now I'm not going to look at this from a financial point of view in terms of saying I did any technical analysis on the price of steem or even that I know if it's valued correctly at the moment, I simply did it for the following reasons:
The community seems great, it seems that a lot of people are here to write great content, create great videos and provide value to themselves and others around them. Even outside of Steemit I think Utopian- is game-changing and an incredible way to onboard development to the platform.
It's changing peoples lives, I've read endless stories about individuals who have been able to drastically improve their lives using the steem platform and I'm happy to have helped that, even if in the smallest way possible.
Finally, I would be naive to think that you would believe me if I didn't mention personal profit. I have been here for about a week and in that time I have written some bad posts that I will look back and think what was I doing, learned a few things from others, learned all about the Steem platform and overall had some great fun doing it. So if at the end of my journey I ended up with some profits then great, but I'll be here either way.

Sorry, mainly because I didn't think it would make much difference and I could just exchange my Steem dollars into Steem on the exchange easy enough. I was probably wrong about that and I'll lose out in turns of converting but I don't mind too much.
A wise investment! As I see it, STEEM and the blockchain is doing some great stuff and I believe that STEEM as a currency is going to beat some big markets this 2018.
Also I think that investing in STEEM in order to increase your STEEM power could be a clever start.
