It's a porn site. I'm not excited about this direction. Steemit already has enough seediness. Even though this new venture promises good things for the economy, I remain cautious, at what cost.
I'm new to crypto; and, will definitely be mindful to not get carried away by hype.
It is a fork of the code. Unfortunately it's likely to be a competitor to steem going forward. That is what we get with open sourced. At least we get the air drop though should VICE ever make it big.

Porn is indeed a huge part of this decentralized platform. While I don't like porn; I love the decentralization concept, and the respect Steemit requires to protect the under-aged, and uninterested with use of the NSFW tag.

Like it or not, porn has been the driving force in advancing video technology, including internet streaming. Some 30% of internet traffic is estimated to be porn. If decentralized blockchains are the future of the internet, this sort of thing is going to be a big deal.
As others have pointed out, this isn't so much a reflection of Steem as a copy with some different features and goals which could compete with some current uses of Steemit. If you don't like the seedy side of Steemit, this could actually be good news, as users may prefer to post that stuff on VICE.

Porn is a billion-dollar industry. Beyond prayer, and sharing the truth about it's destructive force as warranted, I don't concern myself with it. One has to stay reminded that God gives everyone FREE WILL. The wise person weighs the consequences.
Thankfully, Steemit has the NSFW tags to prevent it being a factor for bloggers. Prayers for those who are addicts that they yield not to temptation.

It really has nothing to do with steem or steemit going forward. Just a one time air drop to current steem holders.
Geez, a STEEM bonus of sorts...I heard mention of this a few weeks ago. It will be interesting to see if it comes to fruition.

From the reviews, VICE could be a thorn in STEEM's side.
A lot of the serious investors have already said, should this happen it's going to be a quick sell for other up and coming cryptos.
