Can Steem have long term sustainable growth?
This is a question that has come forth. Another question closely follows:
what if nobody is buying steem?
This question holds true for all coins..."what if nobody is buying the coin?"
Thing to realize here - coins that have no real use case at the moment are being traded with speculative value. A coin that has practical use cases...can also have speculative value.
Is it possible that a coin with a strong use case...would have a strong propensity to grow in it's speculative market valuations?
With network expansion of participants...the very speculative value of the coin increases - there are more in the know of the network...which increases the potential connections....use in valuing the coin.
What about advertising and revenue sharing?
Your steemit account is an advertising account.
You are the add generator as you add content.
The value grows as the network grows the use case for the currency becomes greater as there is a strong value and regard for the currency.
The potential for many markets is possible to emerge.
The fact that it costs no fees to send the coin anywhere in the world is an extremely valuable service.
Many services exist that provide less than that standard of quality service.
The network....the markets....the networking effects determine the valuation of the coin
Markets create consensus on the price
when you have a strong core group....community that supports and regards the value of the coin....it's possible for the coin to grow and develop in it's maturity and price valuation.
It doesn't take the exact number of dollars that create the total coin market cap of a coin to create that value for the coin. Price is a result of the last buy/sell prices. All existing coins are regarded at a speculative value based on current market trading prices.
The value of a network can grow exponentially when there is a strong majority of support....consensus for the coin. Bitcoin is a great example of this. Steem too...

After watching his video - I thought he raised some interesting questions and concerns...and I think the steem blockchain model is a bit of a paradigm shift in regards to how we manage our content creations...and participations with our peers content creation
Steem is like this engine that is a revenue generator...it's essentiayll an advertising protocol for an attention based economy. Essentially it's all about ad revenue....and the network is the ad revenue generator. So these "adds"...are our additions..."add" plus one...plus one....our new post adds...add to the total of what we had before....add new posts....collect new rewards....rewards will have more and more exchanges...markets for trade...as the community develops and matures, so to do the markets.
It's quite possible that the markets for the exchange of steem continue to develop...and people continue to share new content...it seems like we've barely scratched the surface

Upvoted and resteemed.Yet another excellent post @worldclassplayer. Within your words you bring many points forth to ponder as to the awesome potential of/for Steem/Steemit. Steemians ARE the market force that will drive Steem's growth through the expanded use of the netwrok... Great stuff...
I hate to use a cliche but Steemit is picking up steem. It is beginning to hit critical mass through grassroots outreach. It's slow but it works and then begins to grow faster and farther until that value is sustainable.
Indeed there is steem building. All puns intended.

Every crypto is affected by Bitcoin at this moment including steem. Steem has its potential for us where we can still increase our steem through posting and curation so even if it goes down, we can continue to build. Many may still invest in steem as we all believe in its potential.
I think, steem is almost ready for cyrpto future. As you said, "...the exchange of steem continue to develop". We'll see, but we have much hope!
I also want to believe, although it´s not always the best services that succeed over time - that´s an unfortunate fact. It doesn´t matter, if you got the fastest, cheapest and most stable product, when no one knows about it or people are just ignorant to it.
In the end, it´s all about marketing, and the way it is now, @ned and his team are failing big time in this category. The question only is, if we as the user base can compensate this lack of corporate side marketing and communication....
I think Ned and his team did an awesome job. I think this site can and will organically grow on its own. Right now I see the main issue as being a lack of bandwidth.
I don't really think it's about ned and steemit inc team advertising steemit to make steem and steemit a success.
everybody is an ambassador of steem and steemit. This in my opinion will determine the success of Steem.
It's how effectively we are able to share with our friends and family that will determine the market value here.
When there's a strong core group see the potential...the awareness is capable of growing - information travels best as word of mouth.

That's all true and I still think as the largest stakeholder Steemit Inc. has a huge responsibility to promote the service the best way they can. Which of course, doesn't mean, that we as the STEEM Ambassadors should lessen our efforts to get the message out! Cheers!

i think steem has a great future, it's really unique and many things are evolving in it like dtube,dlive,steepshot,games etc etc. The hard part that can bring a demise to the whole platform are users that abuse it and the hard part is the way or ways to cast them out and maintain a quality!
