RE: Why STEEM Cannot Be Stopped: Not By The Banksters, The Government, or Zuckerberg!!!! Another Reason Why STEEM Could Make You Insanely Rich!!!

A great post with much valuable insight. Is @themarkymark REALLY one of those guys? ;-)
Two observations:

  • While technically a decentralized blockchain is robust in many ways without reliable communication channels (i.e. the internet) they tend not to work very efficiently. Can we realistically imagine a functioning crypto-currency WITHOUT the Internet? Technically it could exist but to what purpose?

  • ALL currencies, including crypto-currencies, derive their values from human perceptions. While it is true that the information within a block-chain is preserved and can serve to bolster that perception it does not impart value. NO currency has value unless at least two people agree it has value. If nobody thinks the information in a block-chain is valuable then it isn't. Now those with the most to lose will be the last to admit it BUT folks with money also tend to cut their losses and move on.

What am I missing?
If the future turns dark the most valuable currency might well be heirloom seeds. I'll trade you some for Steem :-)

Sort:

In this era, even fiat doesnt really work without the internet.

And how are you going to be without widespread internet unless it is shut down?

More likely you are without electricity which hinders using your Visa card also.

Totally agree,
I maintain two existences, one with electricity and one without!
Second to seeds as currency is land. Especially if it's distant from government's notice

It is possible and practical for governments to control/shut-down the Internet even if the electric is still on. With relative ease most governments can deny a region access to communications. Beyond that is the simple manipulation of packets. If the FBI can turn Tor into a tool to their advantage the Internet in general is a piece of cake.
