On the posts that I checked, your self-vote was right at posting. That self-vote rewards all of the author and curation rewards to the author (this is slated to change in HF 20), but it does not earn any curation rewards.
On any post, you can change the 'it' in url to 'd' and see the blockchain data for your post. This table under 'Vote Details' shows the curation breakdown.

The weight column indicates the weight of each vote in distribution of curation rewards. @sbi4 took most of it because it was the first meaningful vote. If you calculate weight taken versus rshares given, you will see that the 2 accounts before it have a higher multiple (e.g. will earn more on curation relative to your vote). But your weight is 0 because you voted at posting.
If you still want to self-vote, we recommend scheduling it through a service (steemauto or steemvoter) for around 15 minutes so that it benefits from curation. As long as it comes in before our vote it will start taking curation away from our account.
wow thanks a lot for the feed back this is really useful i did not know that i will do this in future. Thanks again for all the information your project continues to impress me which is not easily done for a cynical person like myself lol!! =]
Thanks. I could pause your votes if you still want, but as you see it's very easy to get that curation back and still get the value of the vote!
no thanks i have changed the curation i will see if this works over the next few days thanks again
Okay, cool. Let me know!
