The power of the tongue

in #steemchurch7 years ago

The Bible says something really important about the language and the words of our mouth. The tongue has the power of life and death (see Proverbs 18:21)

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

The apostle James says that if someone never fails in what he says, he is "a perfect person", also able to control his whole body (see James 3: 2)

James 3: 2 Because we all offend many times. If anyone does not offend in word, he is a perfect man, capable also of restraining the whole body.

The tongue is a small member of the body, but it causes tremendous problems. Relationships usually end because of things that have been said or not said. People lose jobs, cause conflicts and misunderstandings and shame, all because of a small organ: language.

No man can tame the tongue, for that we need the help of God. The king

David prayed to God to place a sentry or guard at the door of his mouth (see Psalm 141: 3). He also prayed that the words of his mouth and the meditation of his heart might be acceptable in the eyes of God (see Ps. 19:14). David knew that He could not control his mouth without God's help, and we can not either.

We should avoid all harsh, harsh and unfair words (see Isaiah 58: 9). Jesus says we should take his yoke upon us and learn from him, that he is kind, meek and humble, not harsh, hard, sharp or compelling (see Matthew 11:29, 30).

Matthew 11:29-30
11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls;
11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.

A kind tongue (with its healing power) is a tree of life, but insidious language depresses the spirit (see Proverbs 15: 4). Even the tone of our voice is important, because it reveals the condition of our heart.

We can say words that heal or words that hurt; we can build and build or discourage and tear down. Words are power cases and carry power whether positive or negative. The decision is ours! Words are seeds that we sow and will surely give a harvest in our life. Those who consent to their tongue must eat the fruit of their words, whether for life or death (Proverbs 18:21).

One of the things we should strive to do is to think before we speak. The Bible says that we should not rush to speak, but how many times do we say something and then we think: "Oh, I did not mean that"? But it's already too late, because the words are already doing their job. I recommend you make a careful study of all these issues, and a sincere prayer asking God to help you tame your language.
