In this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and so you prove to be my disciples.
John 15: 8 [NHEB]
Jesus' exposition on fruit bearing in John chapter fifteen worth to be given much attention as His disciples. Jesus took time to teach the disciples the way to bearing fruit. He also exposed them to the essence and reasons for bearing fruit which cannot be overemphasized. He compared His relationship with us to a vine and its branches.
He explicitly defined the the church - disciples as the fruit bearing part of the vine. This implies that fruit bearing is not for Jesus but us. He laid out our role as His disciples in the Kingdom when he was teaching them. If we don't take out this assignment we have failed as His disciples and the word of God is not in us. It can't be escaped but rather it is a must.
What then is it to bear fruit in the Kingdom? Before we will have a fuller apprehension of this very well let's look at the meaning of those two simple words, that is, bear and fruit. To bear means to carry out something, take on something or to produce something. Per our theme we will focus on its meaning as producing and carrying out something. Fruit can also be defined as any part of a tree that bears seed. The results from actions are fruits as well. Combining the two definitions we can say that fruit bearing is the production of seed bearers.
The seed according to the parable of the sower is the word of God. This connotes that as fruit bearers in the Kingdom we must produce in people the ability to live daily by the word of God. We train people in the word of God for them to also become the bearers of God's word. The word is Christ so it is PRODUCING CHRIST IN men, thus, the results of your actions. Everything you do must reveal Jesus Christ.
It is allowing Christ to be seen in you. That is why whatever you do whether in deed or word must be in Jesus name. The primary reason for our relationship with Jesus is to produce Christ in others. Teaching people about the life if Christ, training them in love and showing them the light. When we do this our father in heaven is glorified as recorded in the opening scripture.
Christ is the worth of God so when you reveal Christ in you, you show forth the true nature of God by which people begin to acknowledge Him.
Don't be so full of yourself, seeking glory for yourself and wanting people to know you instead of Christ. For you have been called not to live for yourself but to rather live for Christ. Let Jesus be forever seen in you. Selah!
