Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament, because he descended from the tribe of Judah and was of the lineage of David.
In the Scriptures we find that Jesus is known as the Lion of Judah. The apostle John has a vision and looks at one sitting on the throne holding a book in his right hand. And a strong angel proclaiming Who is worthy to open the book and loose its seals? John was grieved, crying, and an old man comes up to him and tells him not to cry, behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has won to open the book and untie his seven seals. (Revelation 5: 1-5)
He goes on to say, the Lamb that was slain, the one who has the seven spirits, the one who is in the midst of the four living beings, and in the midst of the elders, is worthy to open the book and remove his seals because he has been slain and with His blood has redeemed us, in other words, Jesus Christ, the lamb that was sacrificed on the cross of Calvary, is worthy. However, few prefer the Lamb as the Lion, and if they prefer they want to see him as a 'helpless' puppy, noble and tender, but the Lion roars with fury. The Lion roars from Zion, it roars from its Throne, and when it roars its enemies tremble and flee in terror. For when it roars it unleashes a fearful, frightening sound, with power, capable of defeating its adversaries. Jesus Christ the Lion of the tribe of Judah, he roars, and he does it with fury, angry, because they want to deceive his people and steal it. It roars against those who want to steal the glory that belongs only to Him and against those who trade with the Church. It challenges and compromises us because we can not only take the Lamb and set aside the Lion, since Jesus says; I AM the Lamb but I am also the Lion of Judah and I roar with fury.
Biblical references:
Genesis 49: 9-10 Reina-Valera 1960 (RVR1960)
9 Lion cub, Judah;
Of the prey you ascended, my son.
He stooped, he threw himself like a lion,
Just like an old lion: who will wake him up?
10 The scepter of Judah will not be taken away,
Nor the legislator from between his feet,
Until Siloh comes;
And to him the towns will congregate.
Revelation 5: 5 Reina-Valera 1960 (RVR1960)
5 And one of the elders said to me, Do not cry. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has won to open the book and loose its seven seals.
I grew up in Italy, in the Catholic tradition. Now I've started reading the Bible from myself, and I'm amazed discovering how the Lamb that I was taught Jesus to be, is actually a Lion as well. The cross that many Italians hand in their houses, schools and hospitals is just one side of Jesus's story...and I prefer to remember him in his Glory, Triumph and everlasting Power.
