Adam and Eve had two sons ; Cain and Abel, both grew up to be productive men. Cain worked the soil while Abel kept flocks. There came a time when both of them offered sacrifices to God . Cain presented "some of his fruits", while Abel presented "fat portions of some of the firstborns of his flock". It is recorded that God looked with favor upon the offering of Abel or like some bible translations will put it,"the Lord had respect unto Abel and his offering", and as for Cain's sacrifice the Lord wasn't so keen.
It wasn't explicitly stated why the Lord chose the offering of Abel over that of Cain, for me it is quite obvious that Abel's offering had so much value and Cain's seemed like an afterthought. Nonetheless, Cain became angry,he became jealous. Cain ought to have realized his mistakes and asked God for forgiveness, but rather he chose to kill his brother Abel who in fact had no influence over God's decision to accept his offering and reject Cain's. Of course Cain was punished by God, cursed to wander the earth for the rest of his days.
Sometimes in life people become envious and jealous when they see others doing better and just decide to pull them down for no reason. Being jealous portrays a lack of "contentedness"......jealousy comes from being self absorbed , just thinking about your needs and desires with no regard for that of others, wanting all the good things for yourself alone. As Christians when we decide to know the person of Jesus, by the help of the Holy Spirit our minds are renewed, we now want the best for others just as we do for ourselves......jealousy no longer becomes an issue.
Stay Blessed.
Beautiful writeup on jealousy. It goes to show that a jealous heart can become a murderous heart. Cain was very hard working but jealousy was what brought him down. We have to remove every tendency to be jealous. Nice one.
Thanks for the comment....its a typical example of how a moment of error can spoil a lifetime of labor.
Thanks for sharing this bible account, that was the first murder recorded in the scriptures and it was due to jealousy. We need to guide against anything that will defy our flesh.

jealousy is root cause of evils .. we need to be patient .. in order to achieve success we need to neglect jealous feelings from inside of us
The act of Jealousy has been from the beginning of time.. Brothers envying brothers, sister envying sister, the world is filled with deceit and backstabbing.
But in all we still have true brothers who will always have our back.
True talk
When we are contented with what we have and continually renew our ourselves in the holy spirit, we are no longer jealous and sin of envy doesnt become an issue.
Jealousy eats deep inside of you without asking for permission. Let us endeavour to avoid it because it because the aftermath effect will always not be that good. be jealous for what matters without sentiments being involved.

@branks20 this is really an exceptionally well-written article from you, sometimes trials can make someone think of jealously of other.
Jealousy is evil in the making.
It brings a temptation to someone that will make them think of how to end something good.
This was the case of Cain against Abel, and in the end it led to murder.
We should shun jealousy
What alot of people dont know is that jealousy tends to hold us back, like in the case of cain ane abel, he never got God's favour!
Cain and Abel were the first two sons of Adam and Eve in the biblical Book of Genesis. ... The brothers made sacrifices to God, each of his own produce, but God favored Abel's sacrifice instead of Cain's. Cain then murdered Abel, whereupon God punished Cain to a life of wandering.
Jealousy is something we all have to deal with.
So it doesnt consune us
Great post!
The both would have been perfect if Cain had walked in the way of the lord, he could've just tried again when his sacrifice was rejected, but he walked in the way of killing bus brother
Jealousy lead to him being exterminated from the face of God.
