WHAT IS THE WILL OF GOD?

"The Lord said that you're my wife!" I've had friends who were traumatised by that statement after being told by the supposed guy. Yeah, there are cases where it's coming from the lady. I can understand the fear. The statement sounds binding and intimidating. Like; "You are mine and there is nothing you can do about it! You must obey God's decision!" And the lady in her mind (sometimes, guy) is like; "Where the hell is my own will in the matter?" "Na only you get ear?" "Am I a property or something? "
.
Now, the will of God is so large and delicate a topic that it needs a book of his own (inserts laughter emoji). That 'guy' is broad mhen. But I'll talk about some pertinent aspects of it as it relates to this series. This chapter is very foundational to this series. Follow closely, even if it probably gets boring at any point. You'll thank yourself for it later. I must also add; please note this is applicable to every area of your life. Because it's about marriage doesn't mean God will lead differently on it. The same way he leads in minor things, that's how he also directs in the major.
.
Now, there's what is called God's 'Decretive' will and God's 'Preceptive' will. There's a third called God's 'Dispositional' will. But we'll focus on the first two.
.
God's 'Decretive' Will
.
"Let there be light!" According to the book of Genesis, God made that decree without consulting anybody except himself. “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” That's another decree made by him. He doesn't need the cooperation of your choices. He will do it all by himself! Theologians ascribe this will as that which the Lord commands and must come to pass. It is the sovereign will of God. It is not subjected by the will of man. Nevertheless, it works sometimes by the means of man's decisions. After the fall of man, the path towards man's redemption in Christ Jesus, can be also called God's Decretive will, it came to pass.
.
God's 'Preceptive' will
.
This is the will of God revealed in his precepts, found in his word. The scriptures is full of God's preceptive will. For instance according to scriptures, we know we should love our neighbours as ourselves. We know we are to walk in God's rest. We know we are to live holy lives as he has already empowered us to. All those and and many more are examples of God's preceptive will. Some call it the revealed will of God.
.
There should be some form of assurance to know that however how powerful our decisions, God is sovereign. He has promised never to forsake us. He is always there to guide us. It is a decree he has placed on himself...(to be continued in chapter 2)
.
(Please don't make any conclusions yet. We are going somewhere)

Next: Chapter 2. How do I hear God? (How does he speak? Must I hear from him concerning who to get married to?)
