Text: Luke 10:38 - 42
Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
If our thoughts are to be stayed on God we may have to unclutter our minds of other things. We recall how Martha‘ 5 mind was cluttered with too many things in the above text. She was distracted by the preparations being made. “You are worried” (Jesus tells her). She was fretting, anxious and upset about many things". Mary on the other hand “sat at the Lords feet listening to what He said" “Only one thing is needed...” Jesus continues to tell Martha. “Mary has chosen what is better" To help maintain Gods peace, let's measure our lives against this scripture.
We all have preparations to make in life; things to get done, this is common to everybody. But we need to make sure that they don't keep us from the one thing necessary... keeping our minds stayed on the Lord. We may need to unclutter and simplify our lives in order to give Him more priority. When we are able to continue in this way, we can be said to be demonstrating spiritual stability, which helps us to maintain Gods peace in our life. Such a peace will keep us strong under trial, help us stand in all life‘ 5 battles and “keep safe our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus”; so much that even when we are going through the greatest trials we can remain faithful, consistent and unwavering.
With God's help and by making every effort, we are able to stay thankful, stand fIrm in temptation and work at fostering peace and unity amongst the brethren. We can remain watchful in temptation, be humble and maintain a coandence in God. We can recognize that The Lord transcends every difficulty or trial; and believe that in all things God is accomplishing some purpose. This may all be done despite the sorrow in the heart, and through the tears. Spiritual stability is an evidence of the peace of God that passes understanding.
