greetings friends of @steemchurch here I leave you is a post that establishes the differences between religion and sect..When talking about spiritual beliefs there are usually two terms to mention: religion and sects, the latter charged with a negative connotation that is not always correct. We know that they are different, but exactly what is the difference between sect and religion? In what aspects do they differ?
Religion
Religion is understood as a set of beliefs and dogmas marked by norms that govern the social and individual behavior of those who profess the faith. Religion includes the practice of rituals and respect for certain rules present in the lives of believers.
This set of beliefs are of a massive nature, ruling millions of people in the world. Thus we can find religions with a significant number of followers such as Catholicism, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism or the Muslim religion.
But then what does the Sect mean?
THE Sect
A sect is a minority religious movement that normally arises as a result of the independence of another religion. A good example of this is Christianity, which in its beginnings was considered a sect from Judaism, differing from the latter in professing new and different beliefs. When, over the centuries, Christianity became a faith with an important number of followers, then it was accepted as a religion. Sects are normally derived from religions, but include beliefs different from the original, other spiritual leaders and even different sacred books. They are also characterized by their exclusive nature when accepting new members and by having rituals that, being different from the mother religion from which they come, for many can be considered as inadequate, hence their negative connotation.
