The song of David in Psalm 121 also presents the Lord as the One who keeps us.
"He who keeps you will not fall asleep" (Ps 121.3).
Most young children feel fear in the dark. If they wake up when everyone else is sleeping, they can feel lonely and scared. Our God does not need sleep; He is always alert and attentive to our cry, even if our feelings tell us otherwise.
"Jehovah is your keeper. . . He will guard your soul "(Ps 121.5, 7). When parents have to leave their children, they choose a trusted person to be cared for, protected and nurtured. How much more dedicated and capable is our heavenly Father! In addition to preserving ourselves physically and spiritually, he controls bad thoughts, destructive words and wrongdoing.
His Holy Spirit warns us against evil, and also guides us to grow in the way that pleases God.
"Jehovah will keep your departure and your entrance from now and forever" (Ps 121.8). God is sovereign. He is with us always -protecting, pointing the way and teaching. It accompanies and guides us, even in small tasks that seem insignificant.
When we become adults, many of us feel sadness and a little fear when leaving the safety of our parents' home. But we never parted from the love and precious care of our heavenly Father. God is our keeper, and He cares for us better than any mother or father in this world.

Surely, our keeper never sleeps and never slumbers. He careth for us all day long.
