Luke 4 14:21. Jesus in the synagogue!

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Dear Friends

The evangelist Luke document the experiences of our Lord Jesus Christ that occurred during his public ministry, being the visit to the Synagogue which marks a transcendental event for Christians as is the fulfillment of what was announced by the prophet Isaiah.

Christ is the living word and he transmits to us the message of salvation that his Father has entrusted to us to give to men.

In the synagogue Jesus gets up to read. Choose the text of Isaiah that talks about the poor, the prisoners, the blind and the oppressed. In the name of God, Jesus takes a stand in defense of his people and, using the words of Isaiah, defines his mission: to announce the Good news to the poor, proclaim freedom to the captives and the blind who will soon see, dismiss the oppressed free.

Consider the ancient tradition of the prophets, proclaiming "a year of the Lord's grace". Proclaims a year of jubilee. Jesus wants to rebuild the community, the clan, so that it could be a new expression of his faith in God. So if God is Father / Mother, we all must be brothers and sisters of each other.

Brothers, let us raise our prayers to the common Father, positions that without Him we can not persevere in our comfort.

Let us pray for the Church to be a faithful servant in this world and a bearer of the Good News.

For the works of evangelization so that the task entrusted to us by our Lord continues to be carried out with care.

Let us ask the Lord for justice to be present in events where the truth is distorted and evil reigns, so that the abuses are seen and helped by God.

Lord you who created the whole world so that your Glory could be manifested through your works, look with pleasure and mercy on the intentions that are born in our hearts. We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
