Day two.

Source

And God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
Genesis 1:6-8

Today we leave with day two in which God created the atmosphere. We see that it begins saying: "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters". The Hebrew word for expansion means airspace. God separated the waters perpendicularly so that we do not have the waters above our level, and below. God called the expansion heavens.

Here we see that once again the bible clarifies something that science speculates, the first hypothesis and the one that most affirm, is that in the primitive age the atmosphere of the earth was charged with water vapor, carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen, together with very small amounts of hydrogen (H2) and carbon monoxide (CO) but with absence of oxygen. It was a slightly reducing atmosphere since the tendency would be for oxygen to be fixed in different compounds. It would be, then, an atmosphere with only traces of oxygen. By comparing this we can realize why God said there would be expansion in the midst of the waters, causing the gases to dissipate to create our atmosphere. By reason, God said the word "expansion" which means: enlarge the space that occupies something.
