There is more to life than just existing. If your only mission in life is to eat, sleep, marry, make babies and die, then you have failed your generation. No one is born to be self sufficient, we are wired to be interdependence. And as such, we ought to build ourselves in order to influence others positively. Whether or not you like it, you're making an impact, your lifestyle, your actions and your relationship with others. Nonetheless, what matters is the kind of impact you're making. Are you making a positive or negative impact? Are you leading souls to hell or building kingdom crusaders? You don't need to answer me.
Until you realize that your relevance matters a lot, untill you wake up to the consciousness that generations to come depend on your impact, then you won't be careful with your life. The Bible says in Matthew 5:13-16 that we are the salts of the earth. This means that the earth is tasteless without us. It means that the history of your generation is not complete without your impact. Think about it, what have you contributed to mankind?
Matthew 5:13-16
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
The hard truth is that we can't do it alone, we need the Holy Spirit to guide us, and then we need each other to push forward, someone to hold the ladder while we climb, someone to goad us to that enviable height. And until you surround yourself with people that has vision, you might just end up like a nonentity. The friends you keep, the book you read and what you spend your time on, is what determines your level of impact, you cannot dish out what you don't have.
1 Corinthians 15:33
Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
Even with good friends and a perfect success story, some people still cultivate the habit of building walls and pushing off the ladder when they climb to stardom. Your riches shouldn't be for your household alone, it should be for the work of God and to make the poor smile. Impact is not when you buy Jeep for Mr. Ford, he can afford it already, it's not when you buy laptop for Bill Gates, but when you give a morsel of bread to quench the hunger of someone in need. That little effort to lift someone's burden, that very little help to push someone forward. It is good to preach the word and also show an example.
1 Timothy 6:17-19
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
Finally my brethren, this article is to encourage us to do good and make impact in a Godly way. The attitude of a man towards someone that has nothing to offer is what counts. Let love lead, let's live a life of impact. Let's scribble our names in the sand of time.
Philippians 2:1-30
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, ..."
